If he repeatedly stood up to Ashley though, he'd get sacked. He needs to pick his battles, and unfortunately they have to be few and far between.

Depending on how his contract is set up, he may actually be able to stand up to Ashley without getting sacked due to his 5 year contract and the cost of paying that off.

He is a manager in a difficult situation. Stuck between the rock of an autocratic boss and a hard place of expectant fans. (no ffanarr ffanarr intended).

He has a performance target and has been issued with a resource of players. Like most managers I am sure that behind the scenes he argues for more resources, but to the media he follows the party line, as he should. How will it help the club or fans to get sacked? Just create more instability!

It seems to me that Ashley haters expect periodic outbursts of criticism from the manager aimed at MA, or a KK grandiose gesture otherwise he is labelled as a puppet. Just getting on with the job under **** circumstances is in many peoples nature and I think it is really harsh to label Pardew when, lets face it, none of us really know him that well.
