Plenty of good lagers. Not British or the brewed under licence crap unfortunately.
I think taste buds alter. Don't enjoy some beers as much as I used to,although I came across a spot on pint of Cameron's Strongarm recently Grosmont.
Prefer a proper cider nowadays, yet wasn't interested in cider until about 10 years ago. Unfortunately various medications mean I suffer that much if I have an enjoyable amount these days that I restrict myself to odd forays.
Barc. You need a Cornish holiday mate. Plenty of cider here. I recommend the bottled Cornish Orchard or perhaps some of the local brewers, there is a great choice.

Was in Somerset and Devon last year, New Forest and Dorset year before.Going to Dorset again this year. Found plenty of decent ciders I wish they would sell in pubs up here. No doubt will find some more.Ironically got a taste for Cornish Rattler in Somerset.

Ah Rattler, the devils brew, 4 pints of Rattler with Dead Mans fingers chasers and its straight off to La La land !

Top marks. Food to go with?
I've just got some shropshire blue and sriracha cheddar. And I've got some bottles of wife beater left in the garage from Xmas, got it for the riff raff. I'm polishing them off.
I don't touch them types of beer myself now.
Like you say it' peasants beer.
