I like the Sounders. They surely have the most passionate fans. Also, Fredy Montero and Eddie Johnson!

I guess I can't make my decision on who to support until maybe I (hopefully) emigrate to America.

Stick a pin in the map, like the guy did in "Last king of Scotland" Laps.

Ha, I could do that! I think I'd like to support my 'local' team though. Top of the list of possible places to move to is Delaware but inspired by this song:

The state of Massachusetts has also become another strong possibility (plus, I have a friend who lives there!). So I dunno what American Football teams are local to either of those places. Well, I suppose the Patriots are fairly local to Massachusetts.

I would always advocate supporting the local team. Mind you, there's always supporting the nearest football team to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. How about that..?

That would still be New England, wouldn't it?

Is there a Southampton in the US?

The problem with supporting New England is, aren't they like a really good team? They won the last Super Bowl and Tom Brady seems to be well known even in this country, so I don't want people to think I'm a glory supporter.....

I'd imagine there is a Southampton though, there's most other cities.

There is one in Long Island (New York) but I have never been to it. I aspire to, but it's not going to really compare to Shirley, is it? You aspire to move to the USA, I see? I'm moving there in the next 6-8 months. Are you in the midst of the process?

You are indeed right Lapras, the Pats are one of, if not the best teams at the moment. 20+ years ago they were garbage, but they were bought by Robert Kraft and the rest is history.

I thought he would have liked Philadelphia, but there you go.

Are the Giants the nearest team to there, Callum?

Nooooo, not even close. I don't know much about the US emigration system except they have a green card lottery, but I guess if you have desirable skills then you're more likely to get a card or something?

Any connection to the company that bought Cadbury's?

Yeah there is. There's even a Southampton Island, but that's in Canada which, as we know is just a small village in Hampshire. ;)

Well I guess it would be between the Jets and the Giants. Considering the Jets are absolutely awful this year I suppose anyone in their right mind would pick the Giants. Unfortunately everybody I know in the states are Jets fans so I got indoctrinated into supporting them. Sigh...

Ah I see. I'm engaged to an American... so I guess that circumvents the problem pretty nicely!

Mmmm, well that's not likely so I'm gonna have to try the other way I think. I just get the impression that US emigration is very tight, like you have to have a job first before they'll let you in, like Australia.

Well if he can take the Patriots from rubbish to one of the best teams currently, just think what he can do with Cadbury's (although they're certainly not rubbish!)

Yeah the problem with 'finding a job' there is that the US company has to be able to unequivocally prove that there are no Americans with the same skill-set which are capable of doing the job that you're going to do. As well as that I believe the US company has to actually fund the employees immigration process and act as a sponsor. Which, hey, you may have a skill/career which can get you that VISA, but as a 3rd year University student, I certainly don't yet!

I think you can get a special kind of Visa if you intend to start a business (if you have the capital) that will employ 'x' number of Americans. There is a thing called 'the green card lottery' which for some reason UK nationals are exempt from entering. It's veryyy stringent there. I go there about 4-5 times a year and get hassled by immigration/customs every single time... even though I always leave on time! For my Visa I have to go fill out forms (which cost hundreds of dollars to even file), have an interview (with, I'm sure, a surly and cynical embassy employee)... criminal record check... physical exam. Pretty nerve-wracking! I think Canada and Australia are probably much easier to get into than the States, to be honest.
