I got a 7. Good quiz, knowing The Gaurdian though, those line-ups were most likely completely wrong.

 

To be fair, it was mostly Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham teams from the last 10 years.

 

Is the Samsung Tab 2 worth getting? Anything better for £250 or less? Needs really to be 10inch when not used will be used as a photo frame.

A friend took part in Its A Knockout and she said Stewart Hall was a menace and a dirty old man. She said you had to keep away from him and be careful not be alone with him. I have to say that in the 60-70s there was a general view that women who objected to being touched and molested were spoilsports and taking a little joke too seriously. This is why people like the ones they are rounding up now were able to get away with it for so long. A lot of unpleasant creeps.

 

I guessed it must date back to the ITKO days. The Jimmy Saville thing is bringing loads of nasty things out of the woodwork at last.

 

I am sorry to hear that your friend was subjected to Hall's antics back then Fran - glad that you have posted this story though, as i have to say that i have been a little sceptical of all the arrests etc associated with the Jimmy Saville case and to hear an almost first-hand account does make me a bit less sceptical. I was a teenager during the late 60's early 70's and i remember it being a great time, but we always gave girls the geatest respect i thought. Maybe it was those living 'rock & roll' lifestyles that disrespected females.

That's why I said apparently, but yeah we should wait until he is found guilty. But seriously what the **** was the BBC doing when all this stuff was ment to be happening?.

 

It was a different world. Women have always suffered at the hands of men. It is no different across the world. Today, in certain cultures that I won't name, women are treated with utter contempt, in terms of their value and social standing. Over the years, in my view, I found that my fellow men have often disappointed me greatly with their actions. Where is the humility and simple humanity..?

 

If he did this he should face the penalty! I do worry a bit though about how things that were done in a different age are viewed today. I'm sure we all said and did things when we were younger that were not criminal acts and were probably seen as OK at the time but would be frowned upon now!

 

The difference is that because they could get away with it they did. By the way, I'm not lumping all men into this. It was a kind of transition period where women were gaining more freedom, but were also afraid to look silly or be accused of misunderstanding the situation. Also the courts would tear your reputation apart...along the lines of: if you sleep with your boyfriend you must be up for sex with an older man. He (poor thing) was misled and could not be expected to resist. Then throw hero worship into the mix. Most women would rather slink away than have it be brought up in court and their character tested. The women now are older and are coming forward because of the publicity surrounding the Saville case...they are angry and want to finally be heard. I don't suppose there will be false accusations in the historical cases because of the age of the accusers...however must be hard to prove or disprove. Presumably the police are acting on cases where the same man is named by several women.

I also think it is especially shameful because they often took advantage of fans...always wrong,

 

Hypocrisy alert...was bored when Indian was piling on runs in first test...who'd want to watch prolonged batting with few wickets and chances? Now England are doing it I am enjoying the spectacle. Well done to Cook on his 100...got a good reception from Indian crowd as well.

 

Cook is the youngest batsmen ever in test cricket to reach 7000 test runs, and is now England's record century holder with 23. And he's only 27. What a player.
