    Quite right!

I meant great in the sense that it is very apposite. McClean finds the poppy distasteful for pretty much exactly the same reason you find the Nazi salute distasteful, because Britain invaded Ireland and killed a load of people, in case you'd forgotten.

And it's not 'leftie' to advocate freedom of speech. As has already been demonstrated, civil liberties are not a left-right issue.

Nor incidentally is being left-leaning abnormal, but I won't try and convince you of that!

Its OK you dont have to convince me, i have a few leftie friends who i can debate with no problem without falling out and they are completely normal. I have not forgotten anything - the poppy appeal is is in remembrance for those who fell on all sides, as has already been demonstrated.

Yeah that's what they say now, and that's all fine, but it is undeniably linked in many ways to the British military. It is a product of the Royal British Legion after all. Can you not understand how an Irishman might find it offensive? What if the Iron Cross was rebranded as a peace symbol? Would you wear it if you visited Germany for example?

Goodness me, maybe - who knows, its overstating the issue to me. I just dont agree with McLean's actions. Anyway its obvious that we have separate view points on this issue so best to leave it there - no way we are going to change each others opinion on it is there.

This is somewhat tangential (as if all the stuff leading up to it wasn't), but how exactly is democracy left-wing?

Rugby every time. Like both forms, especially the more continuous play of the League version. Only ever watch internationals though. I don't like the stop start of American sports...ad breaks I suppose. I realise that that is contradictory when I say I like cricket, but technology has filled a lot of gaps in cricket matches on tv. I like the short forms of cricket as well, but test matches are perfect for days of sofa surfing.

Amazing! He must have run about 120 yards to catch the guy. Begs the question, why was someone who can run that fast playing as a tight end?

You're right of course. I just like maximum amounts of excitement whatever sport I'm watching, and cricket has about the least exciting moments per hour of play of any sport. And Gay Bacon Strips has given a great example of your second point above! Still prefer rugby to American Football though...

Tight Ends tend to double up as receivers as well as blockers, so need to be pacy mofos. Some of their 40-yard times from Combine are mind boggling.

For those who are plagued by adverts and popups, beyond their browsers ability to cope, I thoroughly recommend Ghostery and Adblock Plus. Being initially built for Linux operating systems, and Mozilla Firefox, they have been ported over to various OS's and browsers, including Windows IE. Of course, being completely open source software [unlike various Windows or Apple stuff] they are entirely free with no catches. They are not free versions, they are the full ones, and they work extremely well. Posters above have recommended Adblock, but I'm putting in the special word for Ghostery. You will find that one or two websites won't allow their videos to run [Saints OS for example]. OK, Ghostery can allow selective sites to have their trackers and counters operating. Most of the time though you can have it on and you'll not be bothered by anything. It's also lovely to see the odd site inform you that the content will be better if you turn on your cookies [you may have them on but Ghostery won't let them pass any]. You press the button which appropriates to tough sh*t and the site works just as well as if you were accepting their cookies.

For example, it blocks Google+, Facebook, etc...
