I thought we'd all decided to stop tyres bouncing off into the sunset after Surtees jr died.
I'm guessing that bit of fencing was not designed to fly into the stand either.

Southampton: Cropper; McCarthy, Colmer (Young 86), Reed, Stephens (Capt.), Turnbull, Isgrove, Flannigan (Gape 49), Lee, Sinclair (Seager 60), Rowe. Unused subs: Britt, Branker.

U21's lost 3-1 at Boro. Rowe got our goal.

Probably not far from the truth. Apparently, it was a gesture to his club chairman to let him leave. It was to say that the man was crazy to make him stay.

Baines should and will be starter, but is it unfair/too soon to say that Shaw is the best behind them..? (genuine question, I may be forgetting someone)

The only other three really in contention I'd say would be Gibbs, Bertrand and Rose, and to be honest personally I'd take him ahead of all of them already on paper. However considering Shaw is only just getting integrated into the U21s, is much less experienced, is showing a lack of durability and missed the weekend, Gibbs is probably the better call-up for some fairly crucial games.

If Shaw gets a good 30 games and a few U21 games under his belt this season though I think he should be 3rd choice heading into the World Cup, assuming his progress doesn't stall and one of the other three doesn't have a fantastic season.

I thought Nigel was very good. Couldn't help but refer back to his previous clubs. He does like doing that.

Thought they were going to make more of Artur Boruc, at one point.

Just been having a debate about this left-back malarkey with a mate down the pub. We both eventually came to the conclusion that Gibbs is the best choice right now. He's got a couple more years under his belt, is playing in what is currently the best side in the league, and most importantly, let's be patient with Shaw. It's best for him that he sticks to just playing for Saints, developing his game, not getting injured and not dealing with any added pressure or media attention. When Cole's over the hill, Shaw will be ready to step up then. No need to rush it.
