A major worry is of course what the international response and escalation might be now. Though of course firs thoughts must be with those immediately impacted. Horrific scenes.

They might've learned that he was found guilty, and even on appeal their right to restrict him from teaching evolution was upheld and the statute was found constitutional (though the fine was dropped).

Anyone seen David Villa's goal vs his old Barca friends? Sweet build up, sweet volley, nice to see stuff like that again from him. I think it's impossible for Athletico Madrid to have a season with a **** striker. Plus their kit is beautiful. La Liga analysis complete.

Plus, Jordi Alba is a tw*t.

It was a put up job. He volunteered to be tried for teaching Evolution to bring the subject in front of the nation. From what I remember he was left high and dry, never to be allowed to teach in the State of Tennessee again.

Yeah, but that's the pervasive idiocy of American political life...not only did they try him for teaching evolution, the court ruled that banning evolution from schools was perfectly okay (something that wasn't overturned for another several decades).

Even if a dinosaur is found, what does that prove? Our ancestors were around at the time of the dinosaurs...no one has suggested we are descended from dinosaurs. Birds and reptiles are the residues of that line. I suppose you could extend the argument and say that all life is interrelated, but you'd have to go back a long way to make Nessie your cousin. Have never understood why religious people twitch about evolution (most don't, I would suggest)...you could easily say that God started all life and evolution was part of it.

As a side note, I know a Jehovah's Witness and he claims all the evidence of evolution (fossils, comparative biology etc) is just God's way of testing your faith!!!

If they met a few of the people on here, they'd have further evidence that we descend from Dinosaurs <whistle>

Ha. These people are obviously ludicrous, but to be fair they are fighting a losing battle even in the bible bashy states, which I suppose makes them go even more crazy. Some bright sparks tried to write the whole thing up into a more complete scientific theory (that's why "creationism" got rebranded "intelligent design"), problem is, they're not very good at science. Short version: evolution isn't real, and all the evidence that contradicts this was just put there by god.

Well, there is the overwhelming, if inconvenient evidence that the Earth was formed more than 6000 years ago. Approximately 4.5+ billion years earlier. That's a difficult one to explain away.

There is also the religious assertion that all animal life was created at the beginning and therefore what one sees is what was created and there are no gaps. Well, the uncovering of the first dinosaur put paid to that, because it meant God must have changed his/her mind. Then another, and another, and pretty soon thee was a whole set of species that died out. This meant that not only had God had a change of mind, but was up late in the night on Sunday, finding replacements.

I think it's a shame that some people don't accept evolution...they are missing out on an amazing and interesting subject. The only people who have a problem are the fundamentalists...most religious people don't fall into that category. How anyone can look at the other apes and not see the resemblance beats me

I think some people don't realise that religion was created to bring order and to educate the uneducated. In that it served its purpose very well, but it has been replaced by the search for facts, not fable. If the New Testament gives a moral guide and is a source of comfort and reflection, then all well and good. The various people who wrote up the teachings of Jesus Christ picked up on some very good lessons to live a life by, so as a moral compass, there are worse things to go by than the Bible. But that must be where the lesson ends. If I understand you correctly, I also think that there is little conflict in Evolution and the New Testament.

With apologies to those who still think the Bible is a history book.
