Well, same here, re the 3rd bike, but I don't think Yamaha are anything like capable of the budget that Honda can throw at their project. Honda could fund the whole of MotoGP it they wanted to, but where's the fun and profit in that..? I read Cal's blogs on the BBC MotoGP website, and it's clear he's been pee'd off for not being as well supported by Yamaha on his Tech 3 as the Honda satellite bikes are, eg Bradl and Bautista, who practically have what are pretty much factory bikes. Add to that, he's practically carrying Bradley along, so he's the sole fastest settings data provider in his team. All the responsibility for results is on his shoulders. I can see his point, but Ducati is a major backward step. He's no Casey Stoner, though his pride probably tells him that because he can ride in a similar way to Stoner he can make that Ducati competitive. He probably fails to remember that even Stoner couldn't get it to win in the end, even though his style was probably more suited to the Ducati than anyone else.

Do you think anyone will take up the four bike thing? Or will we still see just the two in each team?

Ha ha! That's even better than when Morgan was asked whether he would rather fight 10 duck sized horses, or 1 horse sized duck. For the record I'd rather fight 10 duck sized horses. I'd also rather people thought I'd been bummed by a horse and not, than actually be bummed by a horse and no one knew. As Rio so wisely said "there's no recovering from that."

Casey would be winning on the Tech 3 bike, in fact he'd be winning on any non-CRT bike.

To be honest mate, Dovi and Nicky are coming in 6th & 7th or 8th & 9th, and they swap for who is nearest the front, so how Cal is going to improve on that I don't know. I know owners Audi are keen to make Ducati World beaters, but they have no experience in modern motorcycle racing design. It isn't a case of getting the best car and engine designer and saying... go on lads, you should be able to whip any bike designer, because bike design is just so different. Remember, the thing wants to fall over all the time..! :)

He was good but he wasn't that good. Nobody has been that good. Well, possibly Mike Hailwood was that good at one point in his career. Most of the best are the best because they've consistently been on either the best or damn near the best machinery. It's the same in Formula 1. You can't get away from the fact that faster machinery will give a rider/driver the advantage that can't be overcome 95% of the time.

Vale did win on the Yamaha M1 when it was a dog. But he quickly helped make it a jewel.

I don't know...if he could win on that Ducati I really reckon he could win on a satellite Yam and definitely a satellite Honda, maybe the satellite Ducati would be too big an ask. Not week in week out, but I'm sure he'd win some.

Thing was, back in 2007, when he won his World Title on the Ducati, it was the best bike. That engine was just so much better than everyone else's that he could run away from them. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was the year before or early 2007 that Capirossi was in the running to win the Championship on it, but he had a major accident when someone got slightly ahead of him at the start of a race [maybe Jerez..? Dunno.] and he came up side-by-side and the other rider's handlebar jammed on his front brake. Considering that you only have to caress a carbon brake to get it to stop, Capirossi went over the top and injured himself badly. His accident is the reason why they have brake lever protectors these days, by the way, and it put an end to his competitiveness at the time.

Thereafter, the other factory bikes just gradually overtook Ducati. During 2006-07, Yamaha had been having troubles getting theri pneumatic valve system running reliably enough on the M1, which put paid to Rossi having a chance of winning championships in those years, and Honda were just developing as they always do. Nicky got his 2006 World title by just being consistent and reliable, and Hondas are always that, even when they're not the fastest.

Don't get me wrong, I was a fan of Casey when other people weren't. I just think his efforts weren't as superhuman as some people like to think. However, on his day, he could make slower machinery go faster than it had ever gone before, there's absolutely no doubt about that.

Good points well made! Oh, and don't get me wrong although I think he is a fantastic rider, I'm not a Stoner fan, I think he's a bit of a nob!

Been involved in a debate on Reddit since about midnight about how often Chelsea bring players from their youth academy into their first team.

Oh man, it's one of those debates where you have to keep repeating yourself because people haven't bothered to read what's already been said. I'm staying well clear of that thread.
