I don't add it on top, but I'll frequently have a little something to dip the crust in, I love the garlic and herb dip from Domino's.

Yes! I love that stuff. If you're not too far away from the Domino's it's worth going and collecting the pizza so you can ask for extra dips.

I also dislike pizza, but the snack food of choice at the mo for me is a fish finger sarnie with salad cream....yum

My cat loves the garlic and herb dip, always licks the pot, or goes for a full one if he gets a chance. Trouble is it makes him fart like a bastard.

Haha funnily enough I had Dominos last saturday with a few mates, left the boxes out on the counter when I went to bed and when I came down the next morning my dog had got them down (despite the counter being almost four times his height). But, rather than eating the left over crusts and bits and bobs or the grease-soaked cardboard, he had selected the dip pots and I found them scattered to all ends of the house.

I'm lactose intolerant but just take tabs, can't miss out on pizza.

How can you universally dislike something that's so varied? The only constants are dough and cheese.

To be fair, Joe, a traditional basic pizza from Italy doesn't have cheese, so the only constant is dough. Cheese is an American addition. In southern Italy, a pizza will most likely have a thin base, with a spread of tomato sauce [not our ketchup obviously], with anchovies, olives, pseudo parmesan, that is, lightly fried bread crumbs in olive oil, seasoning, etc... and maybe some cheese as an extra..!

Of course, you can get cheese pizzas easier than anything else in places like Roma, Napoli, etc, but a real pizza doesn't necessarily have cheese. When I first visited the rellies, back in 1970, my first pizza there had no cheese. When I asked about it they looked at me aghast, as if I had sworn. Nowadays, when I make my own, I might put a little bit of mozzarella or parmesan on one, but that's about it. I don't do these pineapple-type things either. :)

I find the ham and pineapple combo to be surprisingly good, and of course that combo is not exclusive to pizzas, however it's far from being my topping of choice. Cheese is something that I will not do without.

I'm afraid as I get older, the cheese is something I'm having to give up. In fact, just this last weekend I realised I have to rule out almost any cheese, due to the family digestive syndrome. My Dad suffered it, my eldest brother suffers from it and it is coming on me. I get acute indigestion that feels like I can light a city with the power of, and the ol' intestines get very sore. If I lay off the dense dairy product it all returns to normal in a few days. Skimmed milk, yoghurt, and eggs I can eat, but cheese is going off the menu. Not a bad thing really as I can do with losing the pounds.

When making my own pizza or buying one over here I would never really get one without some sort of cheese unless it looked really good, but the best pizza I ever had was just a simple pizza ai funghi from a small pizzeria on a street corner in Rome (It was really just a guy's kitchen dished out a bit, you could see his kids playing in the back), just dough, tomato sauce and mixed local mushrooms, with various herbs and spices of course which were the real secret to the taste explosion. I walked down the road for about 10 minutes eating it, walked for another 10 minutes reflecting on how delicious it was, then walked all the way back and got some more. <laugh>

Great story. Brings back memories. :)
