Tbh, with the cost of train travel, renting in London probably isn't that much more expensive if you look around and are willing to live off the beaten track. The cheapest I've seen from my very brief search was £300 a month, but there seems to be a fair amount for around £400 which isn't THAT bad. Of course you have bills on top of that but the increase in social life from living in London combined with the decreased time and stress of commuting may make it worth it. I bet it's easy as **** to find somewhere if you're in a couple and both have a job and are willing to go halves on a room and bills.

Yeah, Guildford is still expensive but really nice and after 12 years on and off I'm a little sick of London. Too much concrete! I can't complain too much - our rent is only £450 each because her parents own the flat. It should be more like £650 I'd say.

Well Guildford works for us - she doesn't like London, we both like Guildford, my sister lives nearby and has just had her first child and we both work in London so can go out a bit in the week anyway.

You're pretty much right though, that certainly can be true. You do have to be careful with renting in London though. If you're only paying £400 a month you probably have a very small or grotty room or you aren't living in a particularly nice area. You have to check transport connections between home and work as well because if things don't link up properly you can still end up with a long commute. I work near Imperial Wharf station (south Fulham basically) and used to live near Archway in north London. The commute from there took as long or longer than it will from Guildford...

In other news, Sri Lanka beat Australia to qualify for the semis. England play South Africa in the first on Wednesday.

Valiant effort from the Aussies (Well, Mckay and Doherty), I love when tail-enders put up a stand at the end and shame the supposed batsmen who failed miserably.

I pay 925 a month for a one bedroom flat in Bromley, South East London. It is a very nice flat (converted police station) but that is really expensive and I am the only person paying the rent at the moment!
