If the rumours and headlines are to be believed, he crammed more life into 45 years than most people do into 90, so don't be too sad.

I was listening to a Desert Island Discs programme this morning on Conrad Anker the mountaineer. He was the one who discovered the body of legendary climber George Mallory on Mount Everest, back in the late 1990's. He is married to the widow of his closest friend Alex Lowe, who died in an avalanche 5 months after Anker discovered Mallory's body, and Anker survived it. He tells the story of how, despite digging his ice axe into the snow, he was forced from it and thrown over 90ft before landing again, by the force of the avalanche. I have come across him before and he has always struck me as a gentle and warm person who has to live life on the edge of danger, and crams more life into every day than most people do in a month, including me [must personally improve on that stat]. He also has a half decent taste in music. It's worth a listen. :)

Next we'll be hearing Jim Magilton has been prised away from Ipswich. Just as unlikely.

I know after he retired that he had a problem with squandering his cash, but I also heard that he'd managed to sort himself out just before he died.

Hants making a pig's ear of the run chase, 136/6, although the 7th wicket has put on 48 it will be a miracle if they win this....They're doing better than Essex though, who were bowled out for TWENTY!!! in 14 overs today.

Indeed. I didn't give us much of a chance even at the start of the innings. But without Gloucs letting us use our 1st innings to reduce that target down slightly, Adams' hands were pretty much tied. We need wins, we badly need them. All these rain affected draws are getting us nowhere.

GoT [nsfw] Finally watched the last episode. I knew it wasn't going to be a fireworks episode, because everyone said it was rubbish and anti-climatic. I find it difficult not to love every episode of GoT and thought this one built it up nicely for the next series.
A question though. Who are the Boltons? So the guy that stabbed Rob is a Bolton and he was pretending to be on the Starks side but double crossed them? And his son is the crazy guy (aka Simon from Misfits) who is torturing Theon Greyjoy. Is that all we know of the Boltons?[/nsfw]

[nsfw]We haven't heard much about the Boltons, no, but they're one of the most powerful families in the north and they live in the Dreadfort. They've fought each other before, but most of the time the Boltons have been vassals of the Starks. They've never really liked or trusted each other, but realised an alliance was best for both of them as they both had highly skilled fighters. Roose Bolton fought alongside Ned in Robert Baratheon's rebellion, and so naturally sided with Robb. But as I say, they were reluctant allies as best. The Boltons are known for flaying enemies alive and generally being pretty nasty, despite Ned's attempts to outlaw such practices, and I guess they'd be quite keen to overthrow the Starks and become the biggest power in the north. Now they've got their way and what Ramsay is currently doing to Theon is a pretty good example of the way they intend to rule.

So basically they were on Robb's side because they had previously supported Robert and Ned, but were never all that loyal to him and were easily swayed when Tywin presumably offered them a load of cash and a chance at more power in the north.[/nsfw]
