People are talking about disparity in media coverage because this got all the attention while the Iraq thing got none, but I think there's a pretty reasonable excuse for it. It's not that we care more about Americans dying than we do about Iraqis - thousands of Americans are murdered each year and they don't always make the news - what's so newsworthy about it is the manner in which people were killed. When a bomb goes off in a first-world city that doesn't expect to be bombed, the immediate victims aren't the only concern. The fact that America could be under attack is the newsworthy part. In Iraq it's more of the same unfortunately, and we're not surprised by it.

 

Indeed. This week sees the anniversary of both the Waco Siege and the Oklahoma City bombing, both of which involved white Americans.

 

One bit in the latest GoT episode confused me at first, and may have confused some of you as well. Here's the explanation:

She went crazy when they got stolen in series 2. She's all about being the 'Mother of Dragons', so to sell one of your children would make you a pretty **** Mother.[/nsfw]

Me neither, just: she does, and it's guaranteed to be spectacular on TV.

 

Paramore's new album is exceptional. Just putting that out there. I'm a teenage girl for the day.

That's a decent song, but probably one of the least interesting on the album. There's blues, country, punk, soul, everything. Very pleasant surprise.
