The father in law of Matt Reis, goalkeeper for New England Revolution and former US international, is amongst those who are injured, according to the NER Twitter feed.

There's been a minor amount of left-wing knee jerk, but very minor.

Some expert on CNN (I think) was explaining some technical details about terrorism/police response and said something like "Well, if the bombs are like this and this, then that is how Al Qaeda does it so that would lead us to suspect foreign attack, but if the bombs are like this then that means it is more likely right wing US extremists."

And then immediately the whole FOX news crew was like "Look! They're already blaming right wingers!" when the person said nothing of the sort. In the meantime they are blaming Muslims already via "jokes" and veiled "I'm not saying this is Muslims, but we sure do need to secure our borders and do racial profile checks" kind of comments.

In my opinion, whoever perpetrated this event, can have no justification for it whatever their race or religion, it is just pure evil and is a declaration of war against the rest of the World, I heard a remark that there were 96 different nationalities taking part in the Marathon, this kind of bombing cannot discriminate on who it kills or maims.

That's just plain out of order. It is just as likely an American extreme right wing group were responsible.

It sickens me to my stomach that a small child is among those killed. And not only that, his mother and sister are among those who are critically injured.

It's obviously sickening what has happened, but similar events occur regularly in places like Iraq and people barely batter an eyelid.

This isn't about which is worse, both are terrible events. People need to stop comparing terrorist attacks to others it's kinda distasteful. Yes the bombing in Boston got more press but that doesn't mean one was worse then the other.

Probably because some didn't know, blame the press not the public.

That's because it is so commonplace in Iraq. If the same coverage was given to Iraq as has so far been given to these explosions in Boston, our news networks wouldn't be away from Iraq. It's just not possible to provide such in depth coverage.

As well as the lack of extensive media coverage for most 'non English speaking countries' bombings and disasters, I think that rightly or wrongly, many people feel more empathetic towards the victims of a bombing in America or Australia because the people, their language and lifestyle is more relatable. There are probably other factors too like, the frequency of bombing incidents in places like Iraq, whereas it's unexpected (or uncommon) in a Country like America, which you think of as an advanced and therefore more 'safe' country to live where incidents like this are concerned. Having said all that, I do think that the media coverage has a large part to play. I got that real feeling of disgust and despair in the pit of my stomach last night watching it all unfold, the same feeling I got watching the coverage of the Boxing Day tsunami which was also extensively covered.

The fact that it is so common should raise even greater concern really. I don't blame people for being desensitised to violence in the middle east, it's just an unfortunate human trait.

The press only ever( or mostly ) tell bad things .

During the trobles in Nortern Ireland , how many many newspapers were sold with a headline of " All the children went to school , their parents went to work , they all went home and had a lovely evening " ?
