Well that was interesting. Just back from Southend's training ground.

Spoke to Phil Brown and Marc Laird. However, they refused to put up Ben Reeves for their own website's interview!

Thank the lord we never ended up with him as our manager.

Glad to see the PL and FL aren't making clubs hold a minute's silence for Magaret Thatcher this weekend. Mainly because a lot of the silence's will turn into a minute of boo's which you don't want to see.

Ah, so you didn't load the deck against yourself from the off. They simply didn't want to do it. There's listening to the fans for you..! :)

Yeah. A couple of observations from spending a couple of hours at their training ground were:

Brown is a control freak. Won't even allow own club media staff to talk with players. Media Officer asked to speak to Ben and was given a dirty look and then Brown walked out. The guy got bollocked over going to a player a week or so ago after training and calling them in to grab some answers for a Q&A in the programme. If anyone within the media department is going to write anything about the club, be it in the programme, on the website or whatever - it must go through Brown. They must leave a message on his voicemail and ask for a reply. Then, you wait.... - understandable perhaps that he wants to make sure his players aren't being careless or what not, but it must be able to be handled better than he does it. A few players seem very downbeat (perhaps understandable) in particular a player who was in form under Sturrock has been left out in every game since Brown has taken over. Another player was whinging about not being picked for Wembley, when an injured player was. He had a good case because everyone was surprised he didn't play.

He also said something a bit daft. He's big time, will be interesting to see how long he lasts when the Southend chairman inevitably sells the best players and then can't pay wages on time.

Oh and it made me appreciate how good Staplewood is, and is going to be after renovation work is completed.
