I see they have found the skeletal remains of Richard III in a carpark in Leicester. To bury someone in a multi storey car park is wrong on so many levels.........

It's times like this when I wish I knew the first thing about British history. All I know about Richard III is stuff that I've read about him today.

That's pretty good actually. Alternatively, one could remember the outcome of the Battle of Bosworth Field by reciting the colours of the rainbow.

Today I also learnt that he introduced the concept of bail and legal representation for poor people, and banned restrictions on the production of books. He was alright. Shame his death involved several hard blows to the head. That can't have been nice.

Maybe not totally undeserved, as I doubt there was a single monarch in the Middle Ages who didn't do some pretty nasty stuff. Richard may have been responsible for the deaths of these guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princes_in_the_Tower

Didn't Shakespeare write about him in a pretty bad light? I'm not really familiar with that play.

It's more likely that Henry Tudor's forces were responsible for murdering the Princes in the Tower than Richard III but Shakespeare has cemented the other version in history. Don't forget, Henry was Elizabeth I's grandfather and Shakespeare would have wanted to put her family in a good light to keep in her favour.
