Exactly what I was about to say. If you're going to vote for a party who can't possibly make a difference, at least go for the one with the good intentions.

Might as well not vote at all then. Just as well half these guys don't stand for election in Northern Ireland, I just have to worry about Unionists and Sinn Fein...

Well if you are in the Southampton area in 2015 you have a choice of...not that much. Alan Whitehead I am sure will hold on to his bit but with John Denham quitting those of a more Eastern persuasion will probably face a serious attempt from Royston Smith to finally get his hands on it. In fairness he has been awarded the George Medal since then, as well as a ticket for driving his Jaguar without insurance, swings and roundabouts really. So I wonder who Labour will bring in to try and hold onto it.

(in fact it is unfair of me to joke about that incident in which a sailor was killed down here, I bump into one or two and of course some of them knew or had met the guy on their travels before. I suppose they felt like it could have happened to any of them)

What makes you say that UKIP are not what they seem Joe ? Never been inclined to vote for UKIP but apart from their anti-Europe views i know little about them, so be good to hear your opinion on them.

UKIP are, primarily, nationalists. They might dress up their politics in a populist anti-EU disguise but the reality is they are anti-immigration, anti-gay, anti-trade union, and pro-just about anything which might win them a few more
votes. Don't touch them with a barge pole. They are to English politics what the SNP are to Scotland: they will promise anything to get power, but they won't be able to deliver anything. By the way, did anyone know that in the 1930's the SNP were pro-nazi?

I have to take issue with Godders over his Queen's speech, too. Boris Johnson and Seb Coe might be soft and cuddly compared to Cameron and Osborne but they are still Tories, and Tories = misery.

Got another job rejection yesterday (got three in fact, but one was particularly upsetting). It was after a second interview for a comms role at a local charity, this is some of the feedback I got:

"...impressed us with a range of skills in website editing, use of social media and an eye for design. He has a good feel for charity communications and has clearly thought quite deeply about issues affecting the charity sector. He has a good knowledge of the use of social media and how these can be used to support campaigns and build awareness.
He was able to relate what the Campaign does to his own personal life, and had taken the trouble to think about how this might help him in undertaking the role of communicating with our membership (or potential membership).
He clearly has a great enthusiasm for this kind of work and a drive to work in the NGO / charity sector..... He did make good eye contact with the interviewing panel though, and gave good, clearly honest answers to all our questions. "

The one negative thing they said was relating to my supposed nervousness. Um, I wasn't particular nervous at all, especially as it was a second interview and I'd already met the people in question, plus it's not like I've not had a lot of interviews in the past. I don't even know how they would have thought that seeing as I answered most questions right away, and the only few I didn't was because I had to think about the answer first. Not to mention even if I was nervous, a few nerves may have been a good thing in order to put off complacency. So except for that BS reason, with all that positive feedback what more can I do ffs?! It seems like whatever I do, it's just never enough. I'm sorry for not being ****ing perfect or having 15 years experience, but what else can I do?! I've had feedback from two other interviews recently and one had no(!) negative points at all and the other had some BS reason (apparently the company has strong personalities so not sure I would fit in.... What I took to mean as the company has big egos and needs a big ego to fit in with said big egos).

    It's a ****ing joke.

Sorry to see this PL but I'm afraid it's the way of the world atm. Companies can be incerdibly picky because of the huge number of candidates they have to choose from. Speaking from my own experience competition is so tough that decisions are often based on very very small diffferences between candidates. All I can say is try not to let it grind you down and persevere. At least It was very positive feedback and not negative. I wish you lots of luck and heres hoping you find something early in the new year!

lapras, taking time to answer a question doesnt count against you. interviewers prefer you to take a pause to think of a good confident answer rather than to waffle on about nothing. it's all about delivery, your eye contact/hand shake, how you sit and all sorts of other things that make you come across as confident.

also, you have to sell yourself to them. keep talking about how great you are and back it up with examples, its hard. i know i hate complimenting myself but you just have to do it.

one thing i did to get the job im in now is i said to them quite happily "i hope i've convinced you what a good candidate i am for the position because i really would love to work here with you". theres no shame in saying it how you feel! they mentioned this to me when i started and said how impressed they were that id actually come out and said it.

the green party are a bunch of absolute idiots.

just vote anybody but con/lab/lib so our country can actually repair itself. they are all the same and dont do what they say they will do in their manifest. half the stuff the tory party has done, they have no mandate for.

I think UKIP will take a lot of votes without getting any seats at the next election; with a lot of 3rd and a few 2nd places. They will replace the LIB-Dems as the "protest vote" Party.

The Lib-Dems have always been a safe haven for those who voted for the incumbant party and don't want to go the whole hog and 'cross the floor' the next time round.

Being in Government means the Lib-Dems will be almost wiped out at the next general election, for this reason. Had they been in coalition with Labour instead of the Tories it would be exactly the same situation for them in 2015.

Sir Merv King said, shortly before the last general election, that whoever got elected, they would have to make decisions so unpopular it could see them in opposition for years!

Personally I don't rate David Cameron enormously, but the thought of Ed Milliband at 10 Downing Street doesn't exactly fill me with any confidence either!

I am going to organise a coup and and install Fran as our new Queen as after all our very best Queen ever used to live on the IoW.

I shall form a government made up totally of posters on not606. I have made a few suggestions below but I need some help with the other appointments. Please feel free to make nominations or to volunteer.

    The Cabinet:

•Prime Minister, First Lord of the Treasury and Minister for the Civil Service – Jose Fonte Baby by decree from HRH Queen Fran.

•First Secretary of State, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs – GMI as his tact and diplomacy will win us many friends.

•Chancellor of the Exchequer – Any or all of the Pompey Posters as they will be bound to do a better job than Osborne and lets not forget the country is in a bigger mess than Pompey.

•Secretary of State for the Home Department – jenthesaint1990 as she is a woman and they are very good at homely things.

•Secretary of State for Defence – qwerty as it looks as he has the armour for it.

•Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills; and President of the Board of Trade – On_The_Bus because he volunteered.

•Secretary of State for Work and Pensions – Chilko Saint for his innovative ideas on improving the lot of pensioners and at the same time reducing unemployment amongst the young.

•Lord Chancellor, Secretary of State for Justice **– Joe Steinberg as he has to be given a chance to begin his law career somewhere.

•Secretary of State for Education – Beddytare so that he can introduce his unique form of mathematics in schools.

•Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government – Beef_Dripping so that he can undo all of the harm done by Royston.

•Secretary of State for Health – Me so I can take all the defence spending and use it on hospitals.

•Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs – SB3 as we all know he is the village idiot and would therefore know more than most about rural things.

•Secretary of State for International Development – - Doing The Lambert Walk as he would get on well with all those jolly foreigners.

•Secretary of State for Scotland – Aberdeen Saint as he is the only one who would want to live there.

•Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change – Pompey Lampras as he is really worried about rising sea levels and the potential risk to his beloved Portsea Island.

•Secretary of State for Transport – TheSecondStain as he'll have everyone riding motor bikes which should be good fun.

•Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport; and Minister for Women and Equalities – dman as he has a way with women.

•Secretary of State for Northern Ireland – Gay Bacon Strips as no one with half a brain would want the job and he volunteered

•Secretary of State for Wales – This post is vacant as at is not very important and the Welsh will never know.
