Now that is a very interesting question.

Primarily I think we joined for the trading opportunities it opened up but of course it has been an evolving project ever since.

I like the free movement of goods and people and think it is marvellous that I can go and live in any of the EU states should I wish to.

I also like the cosmopolitan communities it has created and the opportunities that it has given us to mix with people from all over Europe.

I am fortunate to count amongst my close acquaintances Poles, Hungarians, Czechs, Norwegians, a great many Spaniards and numerous French people as well as several Afghans, Indians and Pakistanis.

Communication and travel have both made the world a much smaller place and the opportunities for travel has hopefully given people a greater perspective on the communities of the world.

As for withdrawing from the EU that thought fills me with horror particularly if it is a consequence of national politicians being obsessed with national power.

My life has been enriched as a consequence of the EU and I would not like the lives of my grandchildren to be diminished because of jealous and power hungry politicians forcing the EU's collapse.

I feel with the EU that it is something you take for granted but would miss terribly if it was lost.

Mate you obviously did not read the introduction where I explained why it is necessary in the main to do so. Also remember we too have our bosses who like things done too. What purpose would be served in keeping the same one going?

Steady on now chaps. I'm the one who normally starts the arguments around here. You're both meant to keep me in order.

I guess it's better than being part of the Third Reich (with apologies to Godwins Law) or as part of the Soviet Union?

I'm with Godders on this one. Free movement of goods and persons does a lot of good. You can't justify your euroskepticism by using Greece and Portugal as examples. They're in a mess as a result of their own poor productivity, and they'd be even worse off if they didn't have the likes of Germany bailing them out. You can't compare their situation with ours.

How you can say that Germany is the "worst" country in Europe is beyond me.

Why would they be worse off without the help of Germany?

    Germany is a horrible country.

Because German taxpayers are constantly paying to bail the lazy sods out. What makes it a horrible country in your eyes?

Why's Germany a horrible country? I've never been, but all the German people I met are all quite nice, in a rather 'proper' manner.

This isn't one of those 'people are only not in work because they choose to not be in work' discourses is that? 'Cause I can say from my own experience that that's total BS.

There is a thing called the Schengen treaty. The UK doesn't have to be in the EU to have free movement of goods, services and citizens.

What lazy sods? The one's that work for €500 a month and have to pay €400 rent? The one's that can't afford food because of the introduction of the euro that raised prices?? I don't want Germans to control me, thank you very much.

I went to Munich once and it was a horrible place. I never wanna go back there again.

That's the most unpatriotic thing I've ever heard. The Union will get stronger through this and the UK will always be part of what some day will be a Super State.

    Get used to it!
