Depends what you mean by "use".
All life is held in a balance and there are repercussions when you alter that balance. Of course, things are changing all the time, but it's difficult to predict what individual changes will bring about. There is plenty of evidence that taking predators out of a system is damaging to the entire system.
Wasps are serious predators of many other insects that damage crops etc.
Things are only pests or vermin because we choose to call them that, usually because they compete with us or inconvenience us in some way.
Every thing has a vital role to play, even Everton supporters.

I got stung by a batard wasp last year. It hurt a lot more than a nettle sting, I must say. It was on my middle toe though, which promptly achieved the dimensions of my big toe, so that might have had something to do with it.

    very true saint,

that's the argument for sharks as well, just because they are a nuisance to us, they have a role to play on this planet.

Yep,like everything else wasps play their part within the ecosystem even if they seem to be a pain in the arse (especially in late summer/autumn.

I'm a gardener by trade so every 2 or 3 years I get a wasp sting. They bloody hurt and always cause nasty swelling and itchiness.

I can't remember ever having been stung by a bee.

Honey bee stings are apparently worse (more painful) than wasp stings, but I've not been stung by a honey bee since I was a kid and so I can't add my opinion on that research.

Saint: I'd rep you for that Everton fan comment alone, but apparently I've got to whore the rep around a bit first. :)
