Unfortunately, in this day and age, 9 times out of ten its about the money, then opportunity.

I totally agree on that count, but i suppose the sooner you get an opportunity the sooner you can get a contract so its all on how the player sees his career going.

Also i'm sure that any youngsters showing great talent will soon be poached buy the 'BIGGER BOYS' either from you or us as you say its money that talk 99% of the time and that 1% is normally a **** player :cheesy:......

I'm with Weighty, it is very presumptious to think that just because you have a Cat 1 academy and currently play in the prem that this will automatically guarantee you get all of the best talent. Our academy, our club and Klug all have a reputation for bringing through young players, a lot more than you have recently. If the likes of Trotter and Rhodes find themselves playing in the prem that will be another success story that can be partially accredited to us.

What I can see happening is that the big clubs will end up filling their academy with a lot of young talent but for sure a large number won't make the grade and will end up filtering down the leagues. It will be harder for the lower category academies to make stars who the club can sell for good money but good cast-offs from bigger teams will become more numerous. When you think about it, it's not much different from how it is now really. Big clubs buy or attract best talent, smaller clubs suffer.

There is a big difference between thinking you have a massive dick and being a dick San Diego.

sorry DM, that made me chuckle <laugh>

some interesting posts though on this topic. unfortunately san diego, the ipswich 'reputation' you talk of is not going to help you as much in the future. ipswich, whether they like it or not, will be reduced to our left overs. the chance for parents to send their kids to the most enhanced academy in east anglia will be too much to resist and only a small handful will feel otherwise. that doesn't mean you won't get some decent youngsters, as san diego is correct that the big clubs will fill their academies with so many kids that there will be a huge number on the scrap heap and some will still be good quality. these will get picked up at a later stage by smaller clubs. its unfortunate but this was supposed to enhance the national team - all it will do is help the big clubs who can spend big money on it. hardly a surprise these days...

I think the point that you're all missing here is that there are very few kids born with a talent. It's the coaching and the club that creates the footballer.

Norwich may well be taking some great kids from Suffolk this summer but there will still be plenty to go around.

This kid is 9 years old for goodness sake. What an idiotic thing to try to score points over <doh>

take your point yorkie but you've surely got to admit that your club is seriously hampered by norwich having a cat1 academy. we can take kids from all around the country for starters and because we are cat1, we are able to hire THE best coaches in europe to work with the young players. as i say, i know klug well - he's got a good record of producing talent but he is far from world class. norwich are already getting these guys in and we are beginning to cherry-pick the best at a very young age. ipswich will get the left overs.

I don't really think its fact you have cat 1 that makes the difference but you do have the upper hand by being in the higher league.........for now.....

    I’m confused!

Where in Lancs’ post in there any intimation or any possible tangential thought process that could validate that comment?

I’ve had a few beers, so apologies if I’ve missed something. Is there a prior post that I’ve missed – I’ve only read this page.

You assume that 1: Norwich will ALWAYS be cat 1, 2: that Ipswich will ALWAYS be cat 2, and 3: that the rules and regs as they currently stand will not only be the ones that preside when this new system kicks but the same rules will apply for evermore.

The rules as they stand will not persist because, even before they’re tried in the real world (assuming they even survive in their exact form by the time they’re supposed to kick in), they are patently cack and even if turns out they’re not (they won’t) they will have to evolve. So, cat 1 vs cat 2 might not always be the uber-advantage that you assume. Not to mention what might happen if the natural order of things is restored and the current Ipswich/Norwich league roles are reversed. You can, after all, move between categories along with your circumstances.
