To be fair it is a TV show so they need equipment. Otherwise it would just be Mears wandering about in a woodland on his own.
I know, it was quoted from the example of Bear Grylls above, I was just making the point that they both have that sort of team with them.
Grylls is without doubt excellent at what he does but it does explain at the start of each show that he creates situations which give him scope to explain how things can be done in a survival situation. He is extremely fit, is a talented climber and from other programmes I have watched I know he is almost fearless. Him and Ray Mears are in reality nothing like each other, Mears is a brilliant woodsman Grylls is a good showman.
It's called suspension of disbelief. It's what you do when you watch TV shows and movies and whatnot. Otherwise no point watching them. You'd be going "that's not Sherlock Holmes, that's an actor in front of a camera" and so on.

I saw ray mears make a bow and arrow and kill a deer with it and cooked it in an under ground "cooker". he made everything with his bare hands. I think he had a knife. that was all
All the ****s pounding Bear wouldnt last 2 minutes in the places he goes. Its a tv show about survival, how the **** is he supposed to do the **** he does and film it without a crew? He aint a fraud, he is the real deal.
