The really good players that come our way from time to time never stay long-term as their ambitions far outstrip anything on offer at Ashton Gate. Unless we up the ante and make Bristol City a destination of choice due to our ambitions but sadly Lansdown will always flirt around the edges and never truly commit to the promises about the Premier being his aim. I can see a summer of trouble and a return to our usual excuses and rubbish ahead of a campaign to nowhere next season - again.

Vitek is destined for a lot more than us.
We are just like we were for Andy Cole and Tammy a stepping stone.
We had no chance of keeping him, nor buying him. So enjoy him for remainder of the season. And like with Antoine enjoy him from a far, thinking at least we had one season.
Agree. But I’m fed up with watching brilliance slip through our fingers on their way to ‘bigger’ clubs.
We need to break that cycle.

I agree with you but to do that we need new owners with commitment to success, true desire, and the know how as to how achieve it by bringing in the right people

But that simply won’t happen under the Lansdowns stewardship

If we spent the 10 million on him. Where would we get these three strikers, left back and one central defender we need?
We have to assess how many points he’s saved us this season, when compared to Max, Bentley or Fielding.
Also, we had £11m from the Semenyo sale, plus the £5m(?) from our January fire-sale.
It’s not out of the question.
What is very much the question though; would Vitek choose us over other teams who would obviously have their eye on him?

And you'll waste £10million on those outfield players without a keeper who'll save you upwards of 12 points a season.
And bu**er me let's spend £6million on clowns like Armstrong and Fally when you're guaranteed value with Vitek

I would love Vitek to join us, well worth £10m but it would be a month of Sundays before we would get him.

I still think £10m is too much for a keeper, especially when you consider the amount of business we need to do this Summer, not only buying players, but also trying to persuade others to sign new contracts. We should be looking to upgrade Max I agree though.

We won't but should SL come to his senses and sign Vitek don't you think the players you mention are far more likely to want to remain becauseof the ambition shown.....or go on as we are and carry on losing the better players.
Pleased to read you've come to realise, like a few others on here, that O'leary was never good enough for us to progress.

We spend x amount on Elie and Hovart

It’s not “you’ll” I don’t have anything to do with the buys mate. That’s down to the club who pay that.
If it was me, there would be no way on earth I would have been interested in Armstrong. I would have gone for Mbappe.
But back in the real world yes we do need a good keeper, but I can’t see 1 we sign Vitek and 2 him wanting to sign for us. He’s got bigger hopes than us in his scopes.

We need to stay in real world not RR and some others world that chat on here.

It’s a catch 22, if we sign Vitek, with the fee and his wages we won’t be able to offer the wages to keep the players and sign others as well, I’d rather spend the money on the best striker we can afford and compromise on a keeper, than the other way around.

I never said Max was top quality, just rather we spent money we had on other areas of the squad. That ship has sailed now though, now he’s gone there’s no point bringing in someone of similar quality, or else we may just as well kept Max as back up this season, rather than Lumley.,

Edit
Personally I don’t think it’ll be a decision we’ll get to make, as I don’t think he’d stay even if we tried to buy him.

Sadly I agree. Vitek wouldn’t want to come to us even if we matched his fee and wages.
The Armstrong, Fally and Burgzorg fiascos are borderline criminal. You only need to read the QPR and Boro fans forums to see their limitations.
Armstrong means well, but football is cutthroat and there’s no room to carry a player in the hope he can put away 1 out of 10 clear chances.
We wasted money there - and I don’t understand why we don’t simply send Burgzorg back to Teeside.

I didn't realise.

But it's not you, as you said above.
The clowns Tinnion and Gillespie are just as likely to screw up again.
And in my dreams this new Sporting Director comes in and removes them both from the process.

As @bcfcredandwhite says, they’ve wasted so much money and sent us back pre Pearson time on finances. Not only did they **** up with Armstrong and Mayulu they went a step further with Burgzorg.

Imagine a word when we didn’t have three screw ups within 18 months. Hopefully the Lansdown’s are trying to imagine it as well.

I too would imagine a world where we'd show ambition.......it ain't happening.
Instead we'll get an ordinary keeper and 4 ordinary outfield (don't forget some for the future ffs) players......and be lucky to avoid relegation.
