    Phew...that's all right then :)

Liverpool can't be that serious about Adam if they want him on the cheap. One of the most promising England midfielders of his generation...and they won't pay more than 20 million...even 25 is too low.

Unless they're idiots, they'll be looking at other attacking mids, probably on the continent, who will go for under £20m.

They are idiots though, because Andy Carroll.

They only paid so much for him because they had Chelsea paying them "Andy Carroll plus £15m" for Torres.

Yes, but that doesn't stop us mocking them for paying that. The record books show: Andy Carroll, Newcastle to Liverpool - 35m. Always be there for a giggle :D

No it doesn't stop us mocking them, but it should stop us from predicting future actions based on it. Unless they're going to sell another striker for silly money of course... ;)

It does show that they can be stupid with their money. They weren't obliged to spend the majority of the Torres money on a new striker, and even if they were, they could have done it a lot better. I think most clubs' boards in that situation would have acted very differently.

I think Liverpool panicked...not a good thing with millions swirling around your bank account and they were taken for a ride. Also didn't do Carroll any good...if not for all this nonsense, most people would see him as a good player...instead of 'a player not worth the money.'

In fairness to Carroll, he was getting a goal every other game under Houghton with some assists and was only about 21 and Liverpool didn't suit his style. He's playing the right style at West Ham for himself, but injuries have put him back.

I think Dalglish panicked. It also showed how behind the times he was as a tactician. For the top clubs, football has long moved on from the barnstorming, totem-pole centre forward. £35M was also an astonishing amount to pay. He wasn't worth a third of that price. He was just a good player in exceptional form. Having got over his latest round of injuries, he is now just a good player in decent form and the season has ended.

Let's be fair, at the time he was considered an outstanding prospect. He had scored 11 goals in 19 premier league appearances for Newcastle that season (more than he ever has since) and won his first England cap before the transfer. People were describing him as the best striker in the league.

With hindsight it looks a poor piece of business, but when you bear in mind they also bought Suarez with the proceeds of Torres' transfer, it looks like a worthwhile gamble.

I think it was another case of people believing the hype. I find it hard to believe that Liverpool didn't research Carroll better. I mean, come on... £35M..!

I suppose the money was burning a hole in someone's pocket at Anfield.

Is that how little time it took for them to part with it..? Jeez. I mean to say, I'd have stuck it into a high interest account for a few days at least. That's what the banks do with our puny cheques and it doesn't do them any harm.

Not sure if you guys realise that the panic buy that was 'Carroll' was under different management and different ownership.

It didn't turn out too bad anyway. We basically sold Torres and Babel and bought Suarez and Carroll. I know which pair I'd rather have <ok>

Don't let something like facts get in the way of our little giggle :) you'll always be the club that paid 35m for Andy Carroll :)

Wasn't it a last minute thing anyway? That they sold their striker on the last day and had to get someone in to replace him quick? And Ian Rush didn't want the gig?
