Hard working, scrappy, ragged, ineffective. Credit to Cardiff, though, they they made some good blocks on shots and passes. Their first was from a tight angle that got between Gunn and the near post. IMHO Gunn should have blocked it easily. Their second was just unlucky for us. Reed and Tettey where everywhere on defense and Reed looked good going forward at times. I think you can tell if Josh is having a good game early on but then who was there on the bench to replace him? Husband?
I've had enough of this season and just want to see who we're going to lose and who can recruit before pre-season starts. #flyingnorthforthesummer
I agree with 'hard working' but also 'ineffective', but I thought our approach play was good today, getting the ball forward quickly and for once getting behind their defence. The 4-3-3 formation worked well IMO, producing 17 chances, but once again the front line failed to make the most of them. Srbeny hit the post and had 2 other shots on target but Murphy, for all of his running, was ineffective with both his crosses and his shots. Madders also had a relatively low-key game. Vrancic was our best attacking player and Leitner did pretty well after coming back from injury. Reed's work-rate was tremendous and I can see why he was the fans' Player of the Month for March. He reminds me of 'three lungs' Gary Holt. I agree that Gunn should have done better with their first goal (no keeper should allow a goal at his near post) but other than that he had a good match. It's just a pity that mistake cost us the match.
I thought we looked very good going forward against Sunderland and today was pretty good, too. Our crossing game baffles me. It's as if when we put in a cross, none of our players are expecting it.
What a dreadful season, even this site seems to be dying a death and is why I very rarely post on here anymore. A MDT with just 20 odd posts it’s really sad On the plus side it looks like Sunderland are well and truly f****d
Well, if that's all we have to work with (apart from Maddison's departure) it's going to be a long, turgid summer on here!
All I can say Cromer and FML (and RBF) is that I am still cautiously optimistic ahead of the transfer window. Yes, it's ALMOST a foregone conclusion that JM will be sold and I just hope that SW/DF get at least half of it to spend on improving the squad, but as a result of the board's financial mismanagement, I'm not convinced that they will. If we could keep Reed, that would be good and I've already given my thoughts on Leitner - I'm more worried that DF won't keep Godfrey. #timewilltell .
I'm also feeling reasonably optimistic about next season. We have brought in 13 new players in this season, which changed more than half the squad. Next season we will have a more settled and balanced squad from the outset. Madders may well leave, but that will at least allow us to bring in a quality striker, or two if Oliveira leaves. I'm not sure we'd replace Madders if he goes, as a lesser player in that position would hardly improve us. If others leave, they will need to be replaced but there should be less disruption than this season. I also wonder whether we saw the future yesterday with the 4-3-3 formation. That would work without Madders with Murphy and Hernandez flanking the striker and Trybull or Leitner (if he stays) and Vrancic flanking the DM, which could be Tettey (if he stays) or Godfrey or Thompson. It's a more potent attacking formation which still allows a five man midfield. Alternatively, it could be a 3-4-3 formation away from home which maximises the pace we now have. Either would be a more exciting version of possession football.
Just have to see. I'm not expecting/hoping for anything apart from better than we have seen this season. That's going to depend on how many of our assets we have to sell, because we certainly won't be able to afford to replace like for like again.
One wonders whether the USA, UK and France bombing a Russian funded / supported state so soon before the event might cause a 'non-footballing' sub agenda to proceedings? Especially if England fans are allowed to go on the lash at every opportunity.
That's what I keep telling myself, but as sure as anything, once the season formally finishes the subsequent yawning chasm of any decent sport will mean I'm drawn in against my better judgment. Bah!
