In his first season for us he was pretty good I felt, got off to a flyer with the winning goal against 'Pool and gave some solid perforances throughout the season, the £8m we paid looked a good deal even though you guys paid something like £500k for him just 12 months earlier. We got Kaboul back from Pompey that season in January although he played alot at right back, with King and Dawson being the preferred centre back pairing, meaning the last few games of the season Seb was benched.
Last season saw us sign Gallas and Bassong was pushed down the pecking order and it's a similar situation to how it is now, King, Kaboul, Dawson and Gallas are all above him and therefore his chances of playing are really limited when all are fit, so although I think whinging to the media is just showing he no determination, you can understand his frustration. He lapses concentration at times but he's certainly a player worthy of a good Premier League side in my opinion (actually had a blinder last night against Rubin Kazan), if we could get maybe £4m/£5m for him that'd be a decent bit of business for a player who isn't considered first choice (or second or third or fourth for the matter!), though whoever gets him I'm sure will be happy with their purchase.

Would you guys take him back if he was available?

We have one of each on the right (Walker is an attacking RB, Corluka less so), although how they're deployed depends on whose on the flank - Lennon, Bale and Pienaar track back to help cover the full back, whilst Van Der Vaart, Kranjcar and Dos Santos don't.

I personally wouldn't. Especially as he isn't happy being cover and thats what he would be for us. Taylor and Coloccini are better

Not really inexplicable?! World Cup at the end of the next season so he wants to be seen as a candidate to go, he'd be in the CCC so he might not be seen as a candidate, a team battling for 4th comes in, probably offering higher wages as well, with an actual manager and no off-field turmoil, gets to live in London, and his agent gets a pay-off so will be telling him to go.

I'm pretty sure it was only a loan, actually.

He's an okay centre back. Against a striker with a few tricks he often gets left on his arse but against bigger strikers who try to throw their weight around he's very good.

True. What about at left back though? Ryan Taylor's there at the moment ain't he? Never think the idea of a right footed left back is ideal (although I haven't seen him play so won't judge if he's been good or not) and I remember when we played you guys when you had Bassong playing there, kept Lennon quiet.

We will sign an out and out left back though - someone like Erik Pieters or Aly Cissokho. Agreed that it not always good having a right footer at left back

Aly Cissokho is a quality left back, you'd have a great back line with him, Coloccini, Taylor and Santon.

If he kept them up then it's a drop in the ocean. West Ham had to pay us £6mill for Keane if they stayed up. 2 months after they went down he was sold for less than half.

I would defenitely take him back for 4/5 million quid. Having said that he probably wouldn't come here as dislodging Collo and Taylor will be hard and we don't chuck massive wages around anymore.

As someone has already said, I don't understand the hate. He had no reason to be emotionally attached to the club and we were in turmoil. The opportinuty to move to a top 4 team in London for probably double the wage would've been too good to be true. I just don't get the booing of every player that left us after relegation. OK some were mercenaries but some players careers were on the line and the club needed money from sales.
