Clearly Bassini doesn't actually want to pull the plug on us as that would futher dent his reputation and it does seem like he just didn't like GT suggesting anything other than he was ill. I wonder if Bassini will think is it all worth the hassle and look to sell the club on or seek new investment?
Selling the club on I think has already crossed his mind from what I hear, the problem seems to be that others don't think it worth as much as he does. So he has agreed to a live Q & A session. Will we see if his advisor will be there giving hand signals? We certainly won't see his body language or him crossing his fingers. Anyway that is 11 days away and he could have a serious relapse of his ailments before then.
Honestly - would it be the end of the world? (ducks) He can't, for whatever reason, devote the time to the job that it needs, and I think that the clause in the bond agreement that makes him 'unsackable' could turn him into a very loose cannon. I don't think he'd have been as 'candid' as he was if his job was not effectively bulletproof. Just a thought.
Earlier I said that we could rename the vic the BBB Bye Bye Bassini stadium, but now I think it is the Big Baby Bassini stadium.
I think that we have to do with a highly impulsive character here. It's his second big U-turn, the first being his initial reaction to Cardiff' s interest in Mackay - maybe he does give all the impressions of throwing all of his toys out of the pram at times and then reconsidering it at leisure, however, if I had been sick and had my sickness doubted in public by someone who is, in effect, an employee, I would have been furious as well. Erratic or not, he is all we have. Maybe the thought of public appearances makes him ill ? Just a thought, which could explain a lot.
I would take the possibility of some sort of stress-induced fear of public speaking seriously, had he not voluntarily purchased a football club with the intention of taking a hands-on role. Regardless, as I see it the only workable solution solution is for Bassini to appoint a CEO to run the club on his behalf. It wouldn't appease me, but for as long as he owns the club, I think that's the way it needs to be. Julian Winter was able to speak for the club even though the three main shareholders despised each other and were to a large degree despised by the fans, so in theory that would be a better situation than we were in two or three years ago.
I agree with you NNW, a CEO is the way forward, but will he agree to it? It seems to me that he wants to be secretive about just about everything he is up to and lord knows where that will take us.
Timperley and GT gave the impression of a dysfunctional senior management at WFC, and this latest action by Bassini confirms it. He must be a nightmare to work with-- impulsive, secretive, lacking in judgement. No wonder he has been unable to maintain previous business partnerships or keep his management team at Watford. Now he is resorting to threats of with holding finance . The relationship between him and GT has clearly broken down completely--it is not necessary that they be friends for both to stay at the club, but it looks like GT will go sooner rather than later. Then what? If he resigns and criticises Bassini, the fans will turn against Bassini big-time. If GT is sacked then a "default event" occurs and Ashcroft can ask for all his money back all at once--which Bassini could not pay. What would Ashcroft do then? We are told "he does not do administration", which would be somewhat futile anyway. Would he buy back the shares and resume ownership? Maybe/maybe not not . The only certainty is uncertainty for quite a while yet.
