Tables updated following the 2-1 defeat away at Huddersfield Town. Charlton's start to this season is now the 2nd worst after 15 games, out of all our League One seasons. Even last season we were 2 points better off than we are now. This season is turning into a disaster, with the prospect of relegation once again beginning to loom.
We are sliding towards a relegation battle, and if Leaburn goes in January we're right in the brown stuff. No matter how NJ shuffles the pack we don’t have a decent midfield especially with Taylor seemingly out of favour again. NJ won't attract quality loanees the way Bowyer did, because he won't improve players. Just one midfielder of the quality of a Cullen would make enough difference to keep us safe from the drop, but who would back our current crop of midfielders to be up for the fight.
Tables updated since one of our most unconvincing wins in history away at Burton Albion. Back in the top half of the table & 5 points below 6th place is the extent of the good news. Up one place in the League One comparison table as well. Our 9th best start in 11 seasons. The reason we are currently 9th (rather than 8th or 7th) is that in both those other seasons our GD was +4 after 16 games. Still a long way to go, and frankly no clear path for making that journey...
Tables updated following the defeat by Crawley Town at the Valley. Charlton are back to second bottom of the League One seasons comparison table. A shameful position after all the big talk in the Summer. We are 1 point worse off than we were after 17 games last season.
Tables updated after the 0-0 draw away at Lincoln City. Charlton are now 3 points worse off then we were at this time last season - our worst season in 98 years. We are also only one point above our worst ever position in League One after 18 games. This season is an unmitigated disaster.
Tables updated after the 0-0 draw at the Valley against Mansfield Town. Charlton are in their lowest league position so far this season. Still 3 points worse off than we were this time last season. Still only 1 point better off than our worst ever position at this point of any League One season. According to Nathan Jones Charlton are "so close to being a good side" For pity's sake.
Tables updated after the morale-boosting 0-5 thumping of Northampton Town on their own turf Charlton have risen 3 places in the league and now sit just 4 points below 6th spot. However, the team in 5th place are still 9 points above us, so we are among a bunch of teams hoping for that last spot only. We need a couple more wins over the Christmas schedule, but it's better than being bottom half. We have risen one place to 9th in the comparison table for League One seasons after 20 games played. Still 1 point worse off than we were last season. A good day out for the travelling fans though...
Tables updated after the Boxing Day victory over Cambridge United. Finally we're heading in the right direction. 7th now in the comparison table of previous seasons. And at last 1 point better off than we were at this stage last season
Tables updated after our best win of the season so far, the 2-1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers Five places up from our lowest league position of 14th, and 4 points off 6th place. And now a better margin above last season ... 4 points and +2 GD better off. Still only 7th in the comparison table though. It's been a good Christmas programme for CAFC, but there is more work to do. The January transfer window ins & outs now have huge significance. Three consecutive wins means we are still in with a shout of the play-offs.
Tables updated after the 0-0 draw with Reading at the Valley; Some members said fair result, others felt we should have won it but could not score a goal when on top. We're halfway through the season; Positive: Now 5 points better off than this time last season, our worst in the 3rd tier for 98 yeras. Negative: Still 7 points below 6th place. 6 of the 10 teams above us won at the weekend, only 1 team lost. So we lost ground on six of our promotion rivals. We are just about keeping pace with the 6th placed team, but at too great a distance to be a threat to them. And we have a tough FA Cup clash with Preston coming up...
Tables updated after the disappointing 4-2 away defeat against Rotherham United. The first time we have shipped 4 goals this season, and against a team who are not known for their free-scoring. 7 points adrift of 6th place now, albeit with two games in hand. Those will be Tuesday or Wednesday evening games of course. No transfer window activity either, aside from some dead wood moved out. Still a fortnight to go before the window closes, but the signs are not good and hopes are naturally low. To an increasing number of fans this season really does feel like it is over. A victory in our next game is pretty much essential to keep slender hopes alive. The top 4 teams have pulled away, but 5th & 6th are still within reach. Charlton are now among a gang of nine teams competing for one of those places.
Tables updated after the away win at Bolton. Though personally I have no interest left in how this season turns out, I thought it only fair to continue to update this record for the benefit of those members who have been following it so far, and who are still interested.
Tables updated after the defeat away against Birmingham. Curiously, Charlton have not won any of their match 31 fixtures in the 11 modern era 3rd tier seasons.
