Tbh I agree with Barton. He is a good player, and if he hadn't had his dark side he would be at a top 6 club and in the England squad. Maybe he would even be Man City captain....
Well it depends on the lad, but if I was sat in a hotel room in Poland and read this, I'd laugh. The fact that I was there, would be far more important that what a mental has-been had to say. As for Kelly, I think the Rio **** will bounce right off him. He's a scouser. We're made of sterner stuff. I'd have tweeted Rio saying "wish you were here"... Mmmm, wonder if the name @MartinKellyLFC is available on twitter....
Surely Barton is just one one big wind up? He honestly can't believe he'd walk into the England team does he? This is a guy who in the last few years has been playing in the Championship and in a relegation threatened team. Doesn't have a good goal scoring / assist record and probably has more red cards than career goals. If he truely believe this then he's more deluded than Sam Alladyce who thinks he's good enough to manage Madrid / Barca!
"The fact you lot took it seriously last season whilst most other sides didn't. " Ah, the old "You only win trophies when other people don't want to" argument. We won most of our leagues in the 70's and 80's when, apparently, other teams were too proud to pass the ball back. As they had been for the previous century, evidently. And European Cups? The competetion reached its zenith in '68, then become full of so many pub teams that even the likes of Liverpool, Ajax and Bayern could win it. Hell, Liverpool even were jammy enough to win it on pens in a final at their opposition's home ground! Bayern suddenly became a great side again in '99, and penalties, after dragging down the good name of the CL in 2003 and 2005, became a fair way to win it again in '08. So it is with the League/Coca Cola/Milk/Worthington Cup. Utterly meaningless - unless it's one of the vintage years that United 'take it seriously' and win it....
Henderson's better than all of them put together. Funny you mention Ravel Morrison cos he makes Joey Barton look like Alan Carr. If we need red cards we already have Rooney so we don't need Barton. He's also making the same muppet mistake the Lucas haters used to make in comparing a young player with an old one.
