I'd be gutted if we couldn't come to an agreement and he left, but the club can't make an exception for him. The wage cap and the financial plan makes sense and long term will be more important to the well being of the club than any one player.

Thats the problem in the long term it could ruin us to keep players like him on the wages they're on
and it will ruin us in the short term to let them leave

in my mind it makes sense to keep him. We won't survive for long without players like joey and if we don't re-sign him then we won't ever get any money from him

Hopefully it will all be sorted out very early in the next transfer window. If he won't sign a new contract I would keep him until the end of his current contract unless we get a very good offer for him, as I doubt we would get an offer that adequately compensates for losing his abilities. Then we would need to spend a sizeable chunk of the £35m to replace him with somebody who has the potential to be as good or better than him. Then ease the new player in around Barton until he gets his feet. Hopefully by the time Barton's contract expires we would have a fully firing replacement so we would not lose our way on the pitch at any stage.

Ireland can do half of it
It's just near impossible to find a player as good as Joey is on the ball and as commited as him of it

Would be difficult and expensive I agree and I hope it doesn't come to that. But like I said the financial security of the club is too important to make an exception for any player, no matter how good.

Just wondering, what ever happened to Ashley's intentions to slash his wages after the whole jail thing?

I have a relative who was at the Hilton for the Charity dinner on Tuesday, Joey Barton did a Q and A session, he was asked about his salary and new contract. His reply was that he was asked to drop his wages by a third, he would not agree to that, he did come to an agreement with the club in principle at the eleventh hour they threw a spanner in the works and he would not agree to their suggestion, he did not clarify what it was I'm assuming it was length of contract.
There were some good points raised, as well as the daft ones, somebody asked him why his shorts are so short????

Maybe the reduction was the spanner in the works? Trying to save an extra 10k after having already got him down to 50k?

Assuming he is on 60k a week, to ask him to go 10k below the wage cap (which we assume is 50 given that Tiote is supposedly on that) is a bit optimistic. Ashley trying to save money at the last minute.

Ask him that if you dare!
No, he thinks the shorts are too long so he just rolls them over and over at the waist, thing is he rolls them too short. He looks like someone from the eighties.
He was also asked who was the most vain amongst them, apparently it's Enrique he can't stop looking in the mirror. Thought I'd throw that one in as well, not likely to come up in a pub quiz or anything, but I will think about it now when I see him play.

Come to think of it, Jose hasn't paid us a visit for quite a while. Was it something that we said to him?
