It never ceases to amaze me that we're in the 21st century and the words 'Australia' and 'convicts' are still used in the same sentence. Has to be one of the most irrelevant modern day put downs.
Yeah i know 12th, but dont say that because I use it at work sometimes!! This is the truth..., I mentioned it in a job interview the other day and they got me back twice and; offered me the job !! HONEST !! Goes to show that they love our sense of humour still (even if they dont like us very much!)
I'm a 2nd generation Aussie so it has no meaning to me but I imagine it would be the same for most Aussies. I liken it to being in a crowded room full of aussies and someone suddenly shouts 'oi convict', and we all look at each thinking 'who the f**k is he talking to?'. Congrats on the new job btw. On another note, there is no way we can beat you guys twice over three games. The stars would have to align, such is the talent at your disposal. Man I miss the clashes of the early 90s.
An elbow, a knee and an attempted headbut. Not harsh atall in my opinion. Wasn't Cantona banned for 3 years or something for a fung fu kick? I think hes lucky with just the 12 games..
Thats a bit vague...you could be talking about any sport now.....who we talking about...? Also.I know the put down is very dated...do any Australian actually get annoyed by it...I haven't found any. I use rubbish like that to break the ice but also sy everyone hates us because we had "the empire" etc...not had any bad feeling yet.
Barton was severely provoked by Tevez who mader a meal of the elbow, as did Johnson to a head but that didn't connect. Barton got 2 red cards that were incorrect and I understand why he reacted, though not at the level he did. Tevez gets nothing. Barton gets 12 matches and a fine. The FA is appalling. Nevertheless, Barton should not have reacted as he did, and though I think he played OK most games, he is a cancer in our Club and therefore I hope Beard is organising getting rid of him as quickly and as cheaply as we can. He cannot be in the 25 until end December, when he's banned until November anyway, so I hope MH concentrates on finding a good replacement now - De Jong sounds like a good bet!

My first and last words on the subject. The 12 game ban does seem a bit excessive, for a soft knee on Aguero's butt and an attempted "head butt" at Kompany. Definitely Barton's name had to do with the verdict. if he does stay I wonder will he be left out of the 25 man squad in August but re-instated in January? it frees up a place for someone else.
