That thickness of skin and strong self belief must be built into the job description, given the job security…..if you believe you got it wrong every time you are sacked as a football manger, you’ll give up sharpish and have serious self esteem issues. How else could some of these numpties keep on going year after year……it’s even more bewildering how some of them keep on getting jobs. You can see this in the attitude to certain players. Alex Ferguson gave up on Ravel Morrison but many other have thought ‘I’ll be the one to turn him round’. Evidence free existences.
I never said we didn't have cover for Chair and Willock. I said we have Amos and Thomas. Amos is not as good as Chair and Willock, but he really would have given it a go.. similar with Thomas ...again not as good as Amos...but again...he would have gone for it. And oh yes and where would we have got some one as good as Chair and Willock who would have been happy to sit on the bench for half a season...nowhere. My only comment was...on Saturday I would have played Amos instead of Gray. Playing one up front and 2 no 10s...woeks better for us. OK?
Seems to me that we should all just agree that Warburton is a ****ing genius and ban any further discussion.
As both Col and Steels said, its all about opinions. I set up the first ever 'satellite school' for a professional club in this country. Basically, all the kids that Bradford City released came to my sessions so that the club never truly lost touch with them. The idea was to improve them and get them back in that set up. Leeds soon joined and i had 4 development classes running twice a week. I remember a youngster released by Leeds at 13. Really good kid, i took my development team to a local tournament and we walked it. Boro scouts, leeds scouts were there and leeds wanted to take this kid on trial, they had only just released him 2 days prior. Thats opinions, someone thought he wasnt good enough whilst the next scout thought he was. This goes all the way through the pyramid, right to the top. I might think George Thomas is pretty poor, others might think hes decent.
Which explains why making it as a pro is down in no small part to luck. Along with a lot of ability usually. There are countless really good players playing non league football who could easily play at higher levels.
And speaking of stubborn managers! Bryan Robson was the gaffer when i took my proposal to Bradford City. Refused to listen at first, refused to meet me. Thankfully there were some at the club who saw differently. He came around in the end.
Absolutely Col, you will have no doubt stumbled upon some yourself just watching a random game. Its a tough nut to crack
92 professional league teams. Say each has a first team squad of 25 as an example. Thats 2300 places to fight for. Almost half are now taken by the foreign influx we had. So say, just over a 1000 jobs going. You have to be that something special to make it at the top. Every club is searching for that diamond too.
It wasn't aimed directly at you Beth, all I'm saying is what I've said 100 times that we don't have adequate back up for either of them. We could've got someone in on loan if needs be to step in and at least be a like for like replacement unlike Hendrick who isn't gonna open up defences or score a goal when you need one. They wouldn't have to sit on the bench every game either they could've replaced 1 or other now and then and keep them fresh as Warbs likes so much. Amos should've started the last 3 games instead of Johansen on form yet alone the fact Johansen wasn't well. Seriously Johansen was a decent player and played really well for us last season from when he came in. Whether it's lack of form, lack of fitness , whether he's just past it or the fact that now he got a contract he's not as motivated, no one can deny he's been nowhere near as good this season. We have lacked energy in the midfield and we need that attacking midfielder to be getting in the box more regularly. He might just need a rest but especially if Willock or Chair are out that attacking midfielder is key to us scoring goals as all our strikers aren't deadly enough.
Well it's pointless now as we were obviously not going to buy anyone that wasn't near enough a freebie. There were a host of free agents available both home and abroad but without knowing their wages it would be impossible to say. Hendricks wages must still be quite high even though he is in his 80's and I don't know if were paying all of them but I doubt it, also the sane with the Wolves lad. I simply don't understand why we earmarked Lawrence as he was always gonna be well out of our price range and Derby were highly unlikely to let him go. Paterson was next up and Swansea stipulated the price they wanted as he had signed a new 1 year extension with the proviso that should anyone meet the price then he would be allowed to talk to the said club. We never got near the price and he has been left disillusioned at the situation playing for a club he doesn't want to be at. I honestly don't think we thought we were gonna be in the position we are and everything was a bit of a last minute rush and hence we only got the loan players in , Marshall was obviously forced on us late on. It would've been interesting to see what would've happened had Willock picked up a season ending injury or Chair got injured in the AFCON as was feared at one stage by Warbs. I think the fact he wasn't stopped us from meeting Paterson's asking price !
