Match Preview;
Barnsley sit 21st in the Championship, having drawn 4 and lost 3 of their first 7 games, so they remain winless. Their poor start saw their manager, Gerhard Struber, jump at the chance to cross the Atlantic and take over as New York Red Bulls' new manager. This week they have appointed Valérien Ismaël as their manager. He has had a number of years experience managing in Europe, mainly in Germany, but also in Greece and Austria. He inherits a side who have scored 6 and conceded 10 goals this year.
As for us, I was as frustrated as many others on here by Saturday's display. We weren't adventurous in our play, constantly choosing to play it across the field instead of trying to get forward and break down their defense. It worries me that I was quite optimistic when I saw the line up, and pleased to see a few more attack-minded players, but that just didn't materialize into incisive attacking play on the field. This resulted in a frustrating Saturday afternoon. It'll be interesting to see what is changed for Tuesday night, but more than anything else, I'd like to see the players go and have a go. It seemed we played attacking players but remained incredibly cautious when attacking...surely the whole point of an attacking line up is that they will go and take some risks and attack!
NOTE THAT FOR SOME REASON THIS GAME KICKS OFF AT 7PM...DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT BY THE UNUSUAL KICK OFF TIME.
I'll add some team news when it goes on the official, but as always...others can add what they know...
Enjoy, those who will watch, and...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!
