Completely agree, instead of all this nonsense about moving stadiums, how about some investment in a new youth academy. A club of our size should have one, or at least the basis to move up to that level if we were promoted. At the minute I picture it to be something like trials on a village green. Pleased that Dougie Wilson has peeped through onto the Cup scene, but I'm surprised he made it ahead of Clarkson or Margetts.
lewis clarkson is a kid. he's good but nowhere near ready for even cup action. margetts maybe a cameo. i d also like to see mccaffery in the frame somewhere. also bear in mind that none of these kids have played competitively since early december. as an observation, i d say that at the moment we have a missing link between our 'development' squad and first team. maybe loans to non, and lower league clubs is the way until we are able to invest what is required to fill it. a tie up with someone like ferriby perhaps if regulations allow. considering we were in effect bankrupt three years ago, i think its a little way off yet.
Isn't the point of getting the KC and developing the area around it to include a new academy facility, and therefore the new ground if we moved would also include that in the complex?
There isn't room round the KC for the development to include the multiple pitches that you have at an academy and none were included in the plans drawn up. I'm sure many of the facilities at the sports development would have been used by the players, had it gone ahead, but there would still need to be training facilities elsewhere.
Looking at the PRIZE MONEY on offer for each round of this seasons FAC its not to be sniffed at either. By beating Orient last week it earned City £67,500 If we beat Barnsley on saturday that would be another £90,000 and winning the fifth round would be another £100,000 plus the share of all gate monies on top. (not that much though so far). NB. Qtr Final winners get £360,000 Semi Final winners get £900,000 (losers get £450,000) Final winner gets £1.8m and the loser gets £900,000 with of course gate receipt share on top.
I agree it is no comparison compared with winning promotion but that's an IF. Its a difficult one because at the moment we are a struggling team and need to get that momentum back, its a difficult one for SB because if he rests players and we go out you are losing extra income and the last time he rested players we seem to have lost something since however we all know players who do not play cannot get injured. I think he will put out a decent side and take the chance, he knows the team has to get some form going and with no mid week game he will want to give the cup a good go.
I`ve just looked at the prize funding for this, not sure if you get 67,500 then a further 90,000 should you win the next round to be honest or whether you just get paid for the last round you were successful in, its a little ambiguous. Plus I can`t see the point in getting £360k for winning quarter final then getting £450k for losing the semi, no wonder the FIFA never has any money !
Being from the Hull hockey club, I know a lot about this. The sand astroturf pitch which is in a shocking state is apparently to be turned into a 3G pitch inside the next 2/3 years and it will happen at the end of this season IF city get promoted. The SMC also want to kick us out so the water based turf can have football line markings too.
So explain why there's a prize for losing the semi-final. They may as well include it in the prize for winning the 1/4 Finals, and reduce the prize for winning the semi-Final accordingly.
