Since you looooove talking about unsubstantiated claims, how about Barnard punched this ex Cage wrestler in the face because of taunts and provocation, with a bottle in his hand. The bottle smashes on impact and lacerates Barnard's hand, as well as the guy's ugly mug. Now, is this an intended "bottling", or a violent reaction to goading from a pissed ******.

We don't know what happened. Only Barnard knows what happened. Since it's not GBH he's been charged of I suspect that he didn't "bottle" (grab a bottle, smash it on some guys face and rub the smashed bottle in their face) the "victim".

I hope Barnard gets a punishment that fully justifies the crime. That is all I can say on the matter as I do not know the facts. I suggest you take the same view.

Suggest you read his other post Jdub.........He had actually appologised if he came over as judge and jury!! This was not his intention.

Thanks beddytare. I am not of the wum ilk. I actually enjoy having debates with some of my neighbours and none of my comments have meant to wind anyone up. As said, because I have been on the receiving end of an attack, its something I feel strongly about. If barnard did it with intent, he should get sent down. End of. But let's see what the prosecution have and then debate it further. Peace.

I've said all along Mike, that if he is guilty and is sent down, then we should dismiss him. However, I know nothing of the circumtances or the details, so I will have to leave it to the courts. I only hope the club take a moral approach if he's found guilty.

In this media mad world we live in (remember the News of the World) to the the vast majority of the public, perception is reality. Non of us know anything about Barnard or his history or whether, at this time, he is guilty. That,s why we trials before a jury.
One thing is for certain: he has a very clever barrister who has managed to drag this whole business out for a very long time. History shows that the longer you can delay the processes of law, the more likely you are to get away with it. The enthusiasm of witnesses diminishes & memories become blurred. A very clever & well know tactic

Our Pompey chum seems to know more about this case than anyone else.Or not.

Barney did have a seriously damaged hand, that much is true but the story about him putting a bottle into someone's face is at this moment a story. So unless you were actually a witness, saying "This guy bottled a member of the public" is an assumption on your behalf and devalues anything else you have to say in my opinion.

Not satisfied with false accusations, you then go on to say "i put the word victim in quotations because lets be honest - you only get a bottling if you deserve one - but thats not the point."
Really? Do you honestly believe that?

Finally you say that Steven Gerrard got off with community service. I may be wrong but I seem to remember Gerrard being found not guilty even though he was caught on cctv hitting the guy and all the others involved pleading guilty to the charge. He was the only one to escape punishment.
