Which is the other team in Amsterdam? There is another team in Paris, the one that split away when PSG was formed in an amalgamation. Up to the 1960s Racing Paris was the main club, but went to the wall and is now a small time affair. Being sponsored by a local company which was a major employer, a bit like Reckitts or S and N in Hull years ago, is a bit different to being bankrolled by some Arabs from a dodgy little country thousands of miles away. Of course, a wide enthusiasm for football in France is a relatively modern thing, hence Paris, a city with a similar population to London, only has a couple of professional clubs compared to the dozen in London. You would think they could fill a stadium tge size of the Camp Nou all things considered. If there was only one club in London Wembley wouldn't be big enough.
****ing ****s. Nothing I hate more than Barcelona other than the Barcelona love-in. As I said, if I was a PSG fan I'd have defo put a bet on.
As I said, 'I think'. I read it when the new owners bought PSG, I didn't study every capital city in Europe. I'd be surprised if there wasn't another team in Amsterdam. I always thought Den Haag was the capital anyway.
The Amsterdam Derby is Ajax v Amsterdamsche Football Club, but it only happens in the odd cup game nowadays, as they were relegated from the top flight in 1978. I've just started supplying a really nice shop in The Hague, completely irrelevant, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. PSG are no different to Chelsea or Man City.
No. Amsterdam is the capital. The Hague is where the Dutch Parliament is, their Supreme Court and where virtually all the foreign embassies are but Amsterdam is the capital. A question I have seen cause ructions at a quiz. There are other teams in Amsterdam but they have slipped away as to be almost unnoticeable. No doubt the capitals of some of those smaller countries which have come into being since the break of of the Soviet Union might have only one team. Probably only one team from Nicosia in Cyprus. It is a struggle to think of many. Though Cardiff is one. Surprisingly Reykjavik in Iceland has a number of clubs. One of them averages 2,500 which is 1% of the country's population. Doubt if any other club can say that. It will probably never come up in a quiz, but just in case it does , I will remember why the most successful Reykjavik club plays in black and white stripes (and it isn't as a homage to Hull FC).
Used to go to the Hague a bit late 60s early 70s because of work. A very staid place then with all the younger ones moaning because they didn't live in Amsterdam. Livelier now. Though I do remember my boss went to a Chamber of Commerce meeting back then and he said that if there were the same ratio of bars to population in Hull as there was there there would have been about 600 bars in Hull. Seems a bar for every 450-500 people is standard in Holland. 1,500 in Amsterdam. Leeds is the same size but considerably less. Had one of the biggest, best value meals .I have ever had in a working man's type cafe down a side street there, washed down with what was at that time very reasonably priced Stella.
Yes, it must be awful lots of people appreciating a remarkable achievement. Hope it never happens to us.
Turkey only have Genclerbirligi playing in their top flight from Ankara, although Ankaragucu were in there until 2011-12.
There's a difference between 'appreciation' and 'acting like you're a Barcelona supporter'. Here's an example.
