I went there and literally couldnt move for 3 hours after every dinner, had to spend it sleeping. I can see how their women get fat once they get married.
Milan your favourite city? You must be from there, no Italian but someone from there would agree. The weather, the pollution, the corruption, the traffic , saying "Buondì" (in that accent), Berlusconi's crimes, Berlusconi's Football club, Berlusconi's Milano 2, Mediaset, Cotoletta alla Milanese, Bunga Bunga parties, the bread, effing Padania and it's effing Lega Nord. Just wrong, so very wrong, all wrong.
So if I win the lottery you don't want to move with me to Milan and be my butler, Imaz? There was me thinking "Lega Nord" was something football related.
not sure on all these comments on cheating and playing for the ref. Totally stereotypical view of Barca and a lot of European football. There was none of to last night save for busquets rolling around albeit after a legitimate foul. All this barca-hating seems to stem from people just wanting to be 'different'. Fair enough of course, if you dont want to enjoy watching the best footballing side ever assembled, thats up to you, more joy for the rest of us. I have also spent time in Milan and while I dont believe i have ever seen the sun there, i do have a soft spot for the place as well, cant put my finger on it but its somewhere I wouldnt mind living, as opposed to barcelona which i actually didnt really enjoy when i was there. But hey i live in a right **** hole so cardiff would be a level up right now for me...
Very true about the sun and when it does come out (from the fog/smog) in winter the pollution levels go off the scale. My lasting memory of the whole Pianura Padana is the smell of pig **** used as fertiliser which hits one as soon as one gets past Bologna. Fog is the worst, on one occasion driving south near Piacenza I left the A1 which had burning flares down the hard shoulder the fog was so bad to get fuel and couldn't find the service area fuel pumps the visibility was literally a couple of metres. Anyway on a happy note the new Pope is about to hatch. Pope Pio XIII AKA Cardinal Arinze. My heating's failed this morning, a portent for certain.
I had the best part of the summer of 98 in Turin (well Orbassano) with a lady who turned out to be too young. I went a few times to Milan bloody loved it but my heart will always be in France. I am off to Grand Hotel San Michele, Cetraro in Sept as Mrs DT is running her first Yoga retreat anyone know the area?
Yes, it is a right dump!!! on one side a refinery so when the wind blows from the south you get a lovely waft of sulphur and on the other side an open sewage works so try to avoid when the wind comes from the north. Stick with the sulphur stench. - Hope this helps!!!
From a short visit to Milan it seemed a very expensive City full of posers lounging in coffee bars. From a slightly longer visit to Barca it seemed a vibrant City full of everything, mostly fantastic work from Gaudi, and the best football stadium I ever seen. Their current football team when on their average to best form, is a good League above anything else I have ever seen played by any other team. They made Milan look like clumsy amateurs in comparison for much of the game.
Cetraro in Calabria? Sea should be nicely warmed by all the radioactive waste dumped in it. Been to Palinuro a few times and to Maratea but I'd take either parts of Sicily or Salento over Calabria any day, less heavy vibe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactive_waste_dumping_by_the_'Ndrangheta "The one off Cetraro was carrying nuclear waste from Norway, he said. His clan had received the equivalent of almost £100,000 for disposing of it." (probably nothing to worry about , a few miles off shore) http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/16/shipwreck-waste-mafia-italy
