But they were created in their own time, within the limitations of their own knowledge. That doesn't diminish their belief.

Before that the sun, the moon, the stars, the seasons amd much more were worshipped because they weren't understood.

As time has moved on, many religions have been debunked once they were explained.

Coming up with an omnipotent yet non-interventionist God is the ultimate belief. How can you prove he doesn't exist?

And anyway, what's to be gained by proving he doesn't exist? What's wrong with having Faith?

I wish I had some at times.

This. Can't remember the exact stat but something like 0.009% of all muslims are linked to terrorist organisations globally (ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, etc.) Try to ban it and watch that number shoot up. If all Muslims turned against "us" it would almost certainly signal the end of the world.

Having said that, I can't stand religion. I remember, growing up, I legitimately assumed intelligent people couldn't possibly believe in magical fairy men in the clouds, and religion was an outdated concept which was dying out with the older generations. As I got into my teenage years and realised it was still so prevalent I was genuinely stunned.

It becomes dangerous when faith and belief is forced upon others..

I've heard this ridiculous statement bandied about on facebook etc. Muslims make up only 23% of the global population, far less than those that profess to be Christian which stands at over 30%.

Agreed. That's a different discussion from personal belief in a free society.

I have nothing against people believing in the existence of something beyond the realms of the physical world. My problems start when people of past generations have put these beliefs into print and millions more believe this to be the absolute truth. Both the Bible and the Quran are so full of contradictory claptrap that does not offer any proof of the existence of anything..

Well many of the stories in the Bible were written by people not actually at the events they wrote about so its not surprising there are contradictions.

Its a book of stories not facts.

There seems to be almost an obsession with young muslim girls at the moment to wear the headscarf.

Not sure whether they are being told to wear it by their elders or if there is a something of a rebellion going on.

Or maybe, they are just following their religion?

People involved in the Christian religion have been responsible for lots of atrocities in history and in the present day.
The Catholic Church protected child abusers throughout America and Europe up until just a few years ago. Thousands of children were abused and raped by priests and when the church found out they simply retired the priests off or moved them to another parish to continue abusing.

The Catholic Church recently apologised for not helping Jewish refugees trying escape the Holocaust.

Protestant Loyalists and Catholics Republicans killed thousands during the "troubles" with various forms of violence.

The Christian religions justified and participated in slavery which killed tens of millions.

Before 9/11 the biggest terrorist act on mainland USA was committed by a Christian.

    I could go on...

Banning Islam is not going solve anything...just as banning Christianity would not have solved any of the above.

    People's actions are the problem.

We all know what terrorists do but our Governments use terrorists when it suits them.

The Taliban were armed, trained and funded by America and Britain when they were fighting the Russians.
Saddam Hussein's Iraq received military and financial help when he was at war with Iran.
In the 1970s the Argentinian dictatorship received support from the British Government.
Americans funded the republicans in N.Ireland and the British state had involvement with the the Loyalists.

    again I could go on.

I do not pretend to know the answer but if we stop arming nutters then maybe we would not have to go to war against the same nutters once we lose control of them.
These wars (particularly in the past 15 years) have led to terrorism.

I ain't justifying it cos wars and terrorism just leave innocent ordinary people like me and mine dead or suffering, but something needs to change and blaming Islam is bullshit in my opinion...just like banning Christianity would be bullshit

I believe that it is not their parents who are responsible for this, but the emergence of global social networks that have changed the concepts of time and space. This has enabled young Muslims in our country to be influenced by global factors..

Religious people have not yet proved that god does exist. If you are suggesting something exists then surely the burden of proof is on you and not those who oppose your belief?

It's all a little too convenient.

I can declare that I have a 200ft dog that only I can see and he is real and he lives in my garden. You cannot disprove that, ever, so therefore the dog exists and I win.

Get your eyes tested Tel. Its a rabbit not a dog, and its called a Pookah.

They're not told what to do by a bunch of ****s in Brussels.

We just don't have this option, we never will.

Religion in my opinion, should be tolerated as long as the believers do not infringe on other people's daily lives. Once that rule is broken the individuals should be minced in a big vat and fed to pigs.

I don't think the Japs let many people in, Comm. I'm sure their population is something like 99% Japanese.

The Angolans probably look north to Nigeria and realise what a mess that country is with the Christian/muslim split.

Anyway, when Trump gets voted in, the **** really will hit the fan.
