Why the **** are some of you swallowing this idiots ****? I know we can't ban him, he hasn't broken any rules, but we can ignore him and revive what was once an excellent/promising thread? It would be a shame to lose this thread to such a loser. Please ignore the twat lads. No more replies to twat? Cheers, Kempton.
Anyone remember Good Charlotte? Early 2000s, around the time all that pop punk slush existed and prospererd (Blink 182, New Found Glory, AFI etc), and they came in with a sound on a par to Busted, except they swore in interviews, had extensive tattoos and piercings, and wore make up. Never have I known such an obvious fake in music, hastily cobbled together by some record company or other. But from memory, they were taken seriously by the press. They were given lots of airtime. People swallowed it. I remember being besides myself with bewilderment at the time. I'm scraping the barrel a bit now, but certainly that band that briefly enjoyed some success served no purpose at all.
Neil Young's band was signed to Motown before he joined Buffalo Springfield. We have a different definition of soul but you're right its the Motown lads and lasses who were paid poorly.
I love Motown stuff but I do find the mechanics of the whole label to be along the line of SAW and SYCO
Whilst all these arguments continue I have to confess that I never considered what type of music a song was when I was listening to it. In my early teens and going to places such as Locarno, City Hall, Beverley, Cottingham and Hessle dance halls, later on Baileys, Bali Hai, and the club above Haufbrauhaus as long as I could shake my bones to the song, and find a girl who would shake along with me that was fine by me. As for influences it didn't work that way, people would dance and have a laugh as much to the strains of The Stones Satisfaction as to the Scaffolds Lilly The Pink, such was the scene in those day I remember the DJ in Mecca begging us not to stamp our feet on the floor to the sound of Dave Clark Five's Bits and Pieces as it shook the lights. I very rarely heard anyone disscuss music genere's as we are on this thread it was simple, you like the song, fast, slow, whatever, got up to dance, the girls hardly left the dancefloor, try and find a girl willing to dance with you and that was that. Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Who, Tom Jones, Shirrelles, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Four Tops, Del Shannon, Roy Orbison, the list is endless but the results were the same, they made a song you liked you got up and danced to it, although it had to be said some guys seemed scared of venturing on to a dancefloor, their loss.
Can someone explain to me the appeal of Kanye West? Because he's one of the biggest ****s on the planet and his music is ****, yet people love him and he gets to headline Glastonbury. Why?
There are certain ones you don't need to mention. Steps, Westlife, Celine Dion, Justin Timberlake, Spice Girls, Motley Crue, James Blunt, M.C.Hammer, Wet Wet Wet - all joke acts obvs.
Hang on, I love the Beatles, Where did you get the idea that I dont? Just cos I said Lennon was personally a twat and his solo stuff was mostly ****e doesnt mean I dont love the Beatles music. I also always thought Liam Gallagher was a massive ****er but Oasis changed my life.
