Blur. Oasis. Smug, whiney ****s Stereophonics. Have a nice day? Not listing to you drawling ****ers. Levellers. Dirty soap shy ****ers Mumford And sons. ****e twee bullshit. Radiohead. Far too overthought. Dull. Maroon five. OMG I hate them. Nirvana mainly. Owl city. What!? There's more but I have banished them from memory.
Agreed, everything after Under A Blood Red Sky is ****e - coincides with when Bono et al stopped being rock stars and became pretentious, pontificating ****s.
Elvis Presley ffs? - He brought rock and roll to the mainstream, introduced ''black'' music to the white masses. Like him, or not, Elvis was THE most important artist of the 20th century.
That may be your interpretation, it's not mine. The topic is ''Band/Artist You Don't 'Get'?'' - you don't have to like his music to get him, just know your history eh?
But he never suggested he wasn't influential or mentioned any history, which seems to be what you're arguing.
I agree with Spes you cant not like the King. Or not get him. Fantastic voice. good looking bastard. King of rock n Roll.
What I don't "get" is the adulation that surrounds him. Most of my memories of him are as a bloated showman slurring his words on a Vegas stage, dressed in a white rhinestone suit showing off his fat belly.
Sorry Chazz but he or his music do nothing for me. If he comes on radio I turn it over. I don't mind artists like Buddy Holly or early blues, it's just Elvis Presley I really don't get. I fully understand his early influence, but can't stand him or his singing!
Unusually I'm with Muff. Fat, drug taking **** who also was the acceptable face of rock n roll for the masses because he was white. Don't get him at all. Elvis that is, not Muffin. Obvz. Never understood or got manufactured pop acts either which are born of so called talent shows. Mika. My missus had a cd of his and it just made me angry. Poncy ****.
Yeah, Chazz. But I know idiots who don't like/get Elvis Aaron. Mind you, I try not to know 'em well...
Muse (trying too hard) Radiohead after The Bends (no tunes), Adele, Florence @ The Machine, Kasabian (apart from Fire), Terry Dactyl and The Dinosaurs.
[ Thing is Muff, old buggers like me found Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Lavern Baker and umpteen more through Elvis - when he took off over here in the 60's he dragged all the great R&R & Blues players into the mainstream with him, I was never a huge fan of his music but, I'm so glad he happened.
