Just had a wee that smelled of sugar puffs.

Guess what just went on my shopping list.

I'm sure you have heard them before TSS, even if unintentionally. The hype around them seems to have died down a bit now and you don't hear about them as much as you did, or maybe i'm wrong but I'm not big on social media etc so not in the loop with these things! I will say though that whilst not my cup of tea at all, I can understand why people like them.

Talking of shop names, my favourite is one I saw when I was in Belfast a couple of years ago. A craft shop called The Wicker Man!

Like it..! Makes me want to watch the film again. BTW, I understand they've found a print of an even longer version.

As to Mumford & Sons, I feel like I've vaguely heard of it, but really I'd have to Google to get anywhere. I'm so out of the loop these days, I'm kewl by my absence. Besides, I was given free hot food by a Hari Krishna monk early on Sat morning, so that makes me untouchable. ;)

Hari, hari supermarket..! [respect if you know that without looking it up].

They have indeed! I went to a small independent cinema in London with a friend to watch it last summer. It's not a whole load longer at all, but I really enjoyed the experience of seeing it on the big screen, alas I wasn't around when it was first released. It has been released on Blu-Ray now, called The Final Cut, if you're interested. It may be on DVD also but not sure.

I've got one of the cinema releases on disc. I don't think it's one of the shorter ones. Edward Woodward certainly doesn't meet his end within a day, so that makes it one of the longer ones, I believe.

If you watched the recent review by Mark Kermode, you'll know that it was often shown as a 'B' feature along with Don't Look Now, a film I think it is superior to. I first saw it way back then in the cinema like that.

There are a fair few DVD's around that have both long and short versions included. I think after this newest Final Cut there is still another 15 (maybe more) minutes of footage that will most probably never be seen :(
I quite like the fact that there are these different versions around. Add in all the problems it had post-production and the lost footage, and it really is an apt legacy for a cult film such as this!

It's funny but the first time I ever saw the film I was almost bored to sleep by it. I couldn't get past the slow pace. It is one for older people, I think, or people who just switched onto the quirky nature of it. If one compares it to the structure of an American mainstream film, even from the 1970s, it is slow. Compared to today's offerings, it is positively pedestrian. But that gives it time to build its story and myth. I think it stands the test of time very well indeed.

I have seen Kermode speak about the Wicker Man before, I am pleased he is a fan and often champions it. Not sure if I have seen the latest review you mention though, but as part of the features on this latest Final Cut there is a 60 min documentary I think that is done by him. I will get around to buying the Blu-Ray version one day, although I expect all the special features, including the new documentary, can be found online.

Don't Look Now, I'm sure I have seen at least parts of it! In my mind I am picturing Donald Sutherland (?) In a church being renovated, and it's in Venice?! It must have been on Film4 or the like before.

Well I think I'm more of the quirky fan than older  I can completely see how it was an obscure film even in those days, and I suppose that's why it didn't go down a treat with British Lion! Christopher Lee to this day has it as one of his favourite roles, and favourite films.
Great use of the word offerings too, very apt indeed!

Oh and just seen that you said how you saw it in the cinema as a B film. That's great. I stumbled across it completely by accident. Was at college doing film studies where there was a video room we could use and hire films. I saw it and decided to get it, and that was me hooked! It's funny because that year for one of the modules, the film we were studying to do an exam on was Goldfinger. When I was in the exam I saw that one of the other films that there were questions on was indeed The Wicker Man. By that point I had seen it quite a few times, and you can guess which one I did the exam on, much to the horror of our lecturer when I told her after!

That's another thing. I found it hard to see Lee as anything other than Dracula. By comparison, Edward Woodward is absolutely convincing in his role, in my opinion. The downbeat, British acting style was also something that took time to digest. I was obviously just as hooked on Hollywood USA as Pompey Lapras, in those days. :)

Anyway, off up that wooden hill.
