The passion and banter of English football fans is part of the identity of the game here, but sadly as you say, a lot of that has been eroded with the corporatision of football. Deliberately in some cases. I'm all for families being able to go to football grounds and enjoy a day out with the kids without having to sit next to somebody who is calling the ref a **** etc. But that's why grounds need to have family enclosures and separate areas for people who want to stand, shout and sing ( ironically like the old grounds used to have) The old Highbury was perfect for that. There was the Junior Gunners enclosure (where I first used to stand) A family enclosure, a disabled section, the East and West stands if you wanted to sit and have a bit more of a gentle experience, and then there was the North Bank and Clock End for those fans (me) who wanted to stand, sing, shout and give the oppo both barrels. It worked perfectly. The premier league needs to introduce safe standing, otherwise the sanitised corporate experience is going to kill the old spirit of football grounds.
The old spirit of football grounds has already been killed. This latest nonsense is another reason why.
I see that Utd now want CCTV footage of fans singing the Lukaku song. I think this is just going to ramp it up to be honest. If they'd left it alone it probably would died a death anyway.
****ing mental isn't it ? I wonder if anybody has bothered to ask Lukaku what he thinks ? To be honest, it's hardly insulting him by saying that he has a massive schlong. If it was me I'd be encouraging it.
