He was a genius that lad. I cried at the funeral before we spread his ashes over his beloved barbecue. The lads at his work never knew they all had a little bit of greez in them.
My point was, even if he turned out to be ****, which he did, it was only £16m. For that price he was a risk worth taking. If he had been £30m-£40m that would have been a different story. You will recoup most, if not all, of what you spent on him probably.
Even if you don't, its £16m......peanuts to a PL football club these days. It was worth a punt for that money
At the time it was, I stand by that. Some work out, some don't. This clearly didn't. You win some, you lose some. I'd rather be like us in the transfer market than Arsenal ffs.
Exactly! I would have tried him on at Chelsea for that price. Better than Arsenals policy of being rumoured to big name players, who all eventually go elsewhere, then you end up signing one unknown asian guy and a random african teenager no one has heard of. Seriously, every season he does this!
Plus his 4.2Mil a year wages. You buying demba ba with dodgy knees is worth a punt.. buying remy with a dodgy heart.. sure why not. Balotelli for what will end up as close to 30mil by the end of it is madness, was madness and always will be madness
The only positive for Arsenal is the last couple of years they've managed to pull in a couple of world class players at the last minute. Take that out the equation they're terrible in the market. Was it last season they were the only team not to buy an outfield player in Europe? Albeit they got Cech, which was great business. They need a new back 4 imo. This Xhaka guy doesn't look worth 15mil let alone 35mil - I take it he's their plan to solve the gaping DM problem?
No one is denying that though. The fact is some business turns out to be terrible (for all clubs) and on the other hand some business turns out to be excellent. They counteract each other and recently we've pulled in a lot of money for not very good players (Ibe, Smith, Sterling et al.). Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Are we any better.... nope player for player arsenal have a far superior squad for some reason. if we were to take this policy of theirs as read then lfc must be awful. Id rather be competent than doing this punting on damaged goods ****.
I really wish people would stop adding wages like its part of the transfer fee when talking about this. If you hadn't signed Balotelli, you'd have signed someone else, and guess what, he'd have wanted wages too. Didn't you guys turn down Remy that season, and he ended up coming to us? That was a little silly!
I dint think they do though. Competance should eliminate the awful and you can still have a benteke and take a loos and thens the breajs but... balotelli... cone on lads.. we all kbew what he was.
Yeah that club is just a tragedy, it really is. They are perfectly poised to own English football, but their board are too big a bunch of pussies to take even a 1% risk.
