Might have to go to ballina for a funeral on Wednesday this week staying until Friday. Any recommendation from our Irish QPR fans please?

Sorry Nigsyhoops, I know little or nothing about Ballina apart from the fact that there is great fishing there. Jack Charlton used to fish there apparently. . I know there is a pub in nearby Castlebar which is owned by a QPR fan. Mayo are playing in the all-Ireland final this weekend so the whole county should be engrossed in that. They have lost 8 finals in succession and haven't been champions since 1951 (70 years ago) so I would imagine there will be talk of little else. Lovely part of the country with super people so enjoy.

I hope the funeral goes well. Who died?

Mick Hunt. He used to run The Half Moon Pub in Harrow. What's the pub called in Castlebar? Also found a pub called The Loft in Ballina, which I plan to visit. I've had to print various forms to say I've had my jabs etc. I've know got to fill in another form called a 'passenger locator' I don't know if I do it before I go or when I come back.

Sorry Nigsy don't know anything about the place, never been there ....... believe the countryside is lovely around there, assume the Wild Atlantic Way goes around that way which if you have the time would be stunning as it's a road route that starts in Kerry and follows the Atlantic coast line all the way up to Donegal.........

Weather is looking a bit iffy for that part of the country Thursday and Friday so you may have to seek sanctuary in a bar which would be terrible.........

Trammers, I checked the weather, we arrive about 1630 tomorrow and it starts raining at 1600. Then pissing down Thursday (funeral) and drizzle Friday, when we leave. So it might be better to stay in some pubs. I have been to Kerry (Ballybunion) in November so I have an idea what to expect. It is a lovely part off the country.

Hi Nigsy
Hubbie and I drank there all the time in the Half Moon. Wonderful pub..
Best in the area ..but we haven't been there in 35 years.

I suppose a different era...

The passenger locator you do on the way over here, online couple of days before, you don't need anything going back to UK, my mum was over from luton recently, it's not the clearest

I was drinking in there then. I was mainly a public bar drinker. Jazz on Wednesday and Saturday. Also the little snug bar. When I started drinking there it was ran by dave Jones and his wife Carol, from brum. Had so many great times there, as they say I could right a book. They say that there was a ghost, a highway man who was hanged. I never saw it, but did see bottles shaking and various other things. Now a salt bar/restaurant, and only one big bar, and it's horrible. I drink in the legion 50 yards from it, next to the old bill shop. You never know but perhaps you and your hubby could have been in there at the same time. Did you know the names of any other drinkers?

Hubbie went in there with Pete Firth and Keith Emerson ( no not that one).
Hubbie remembers an old couple running it...

We came from Preston Road, so not our local ... It was Pete and Keith who were from Harrow..Pete and his dad drank there regularly

Hi Nigsy, Ballybunion is very close to where I live. Did you play golf there? I'm a member.

Hopefully going to Castlebar in 15 minutes for a few hours before flying back tonight. Byrnes bar opens at 3.
