One of the things I always remember about my first visit to SB in 1959 was the Greyhound racing track that ran around the pitch! It meant wherever you were in the ground you were always very distant from the players, except if you were in the upgrade ( for an extra 3d) in front of the directors box. The nature of the way things were, meant that we always had 6 ball boys who had to leapfrog over the dividing fence between the pitch and track if the ball was lobbed into it! The lads were all engaged at some youth level at the club! Never in the time I saw them did they ever perform other than prove they were quicker at getting the ball back into play quicker than the other five , irrespective of the score! Oh , happy days!
