Chelsea and Manchester City both want to sign Sunderland's 17-year-old English midfielder Bali Mumba, who has only made four league appearances for the League One side. (Sun on Sunday)

It said in the article that City might offer around 2.5 mil and we'd be tempted to sell to help fund the promotion push. I don't think so though, we've got money to spend it's the wages which are tying our hands which is fair enough.

It'd be utterly pointless him going to a team like that anyway he'd never get a game for years. The only offer I'd entertain would be silly money for him with him loaned back to us for a couple of years.

Yeah true I'm just saying that if they want him I expect us to get a good fee for him and a loan back to us would make sense given his age. I wouldn't sell him for 2.5 mil because it wouldn't help us much, City and Chelsea have money to burn.

He'd disappear into oblivion sadly. I like the lad and think he has a bright future. But he’ll get zero game time at any serious level. Money talks though. £2.5m is a lot fir a 17 year old. Massive fee in relative terms. But for City and Chelsea it’s nothing.

I wonder how these clubs can sign up so many young players just to farm them out, Chelsea have over 40 players currently out on loan, something is wrong somewhere. 2.5m in this instance is peanuts, and should be ridiculed by all concerned at SAFC. All we can do is hope that Bali's head is not turned and that our new owners do what is best for him and SAFC., but its a tall order. The only answer I can see in the long term is a cap on the number of players these parasitic clubs can sign.

I don't think so Marcus, these clubs that farm players out make a profit on the trade otherwise they would not do it. If we are forced to sell , I would go for at least £5m down, with just as importantly a sell on clause in any contract. I rate this boy very highly as I have said before, the best of a very exciting crop imo, and it appears that others do too, that is unless it is all just mischievous paper talk, we can but hope. <ok>

Agree totally. But that’s how all of us “little” clubs think. And that’s why the big clubs keep getting bigger and everyone else us left behind. The authorities don’t have the balls to stand up to them

Personally I think its utter b*llocks but if he did go I think the bosses here now would sort out a significant move on clause if he was transferred again. £2.5 mil is an insult. Tell them to go away in jerky movements.

Me too clocks. Think he’s looking like being a very good player. But he’s 17 with no first team experience outside of the third division. A good third division player goes for around £1m. I hate to sound like a martyr but I haven’t seen enough of him to say he’s a top player. Just speaking honestly but I really like what I’ve seen so far. Hopefully the big boys won’t come calling fir a while

Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City are keeping a close eye on Sunderland teenager Bali Mumba, according to reports. The 17-year-old midfielder has won a lot of admirers after making his senior debut for the Black Cats against Wolves on the final day of last season.

Since then Mumba has regularly trained with the first team, and started Sunderland's League One opener against Charlton at the Stadium of Light.

The teenage prospect has continued to perform well for the club's under-23 side this term, and signed his first professional contract with the Wearsiders earlier this week - which runs until the summer of 2021.

However, Mumba's qualities haven't gone unnoticed and according to the Sun, spies from both Chelsea and City saw the midfielder impress for Sunderland Under-18s in their FA Youth Cup win at Halifax on Wednesday night.

They claim City are in pole position to sign the youngster and are willing to pay around £2.5 million for him.

Mumba also won his first cap for England Under-18s earlier this year, helping them win the Limoges Tournament back in September.

The midfielder joined Sunderland at the age of eight and said it was a dream come true to sign his first professional deal with the Black Cats.

“I am delighted to sign this because it has been a long wait," said Mumba following the announcement.

“It is what I have been dreaming about since I was a kid. All the hard work is beginning to pay off and my family and I are all buzzing about it."

Josh Maja is close to agreeing a new contract with Sunderland, we’re told. The striker has held positive talks with owner Stewart Donald after his blistering start to the season #SAFC

I want to see all of them signed up asp, and I think we will, the days of a squad crammed with idle mercenaries and expensive loans are behind us, hopefully never to return.

    Massive if true.

He’s still raw as **** but you can see him growing every week, and I think he’s loving life.

He will be ready for next season as well, this season will make the lad of he makes the right choices, he can’t get games at a bigger club than us right now, only the league we are in is against it.
