    actually the best way to make bale ineffective as an attacking option is to attack down his wing and push him back so marv on the right please with his pace

    Whichever wing Bale plays on, Jonas needs to play the same side to give the full back some support. His workrate is immense.

    Shame they both left sided, though he could bring Ben Arfa in for Obertan on the wing and that way just change if/when required.

    I am slightly worried by Bale on Obertan/Simpson. It really depends on Obertan. He tracks back but doesn't always close. Simpson stands off. If they don't get close Bale will use the space to murder them. But that is basics and I'm sure Pards has given it thought. We'll just have to see what his solution is. Unfortunately if he has one of his days there is not much you can do anyway!

    I have a feeling that Pardew/Carver will have been having extra words with Obertan about tracking back with Bale/Lennon. If he does this I don't see them being too much of an issue.

    Ben Arfa doesn't strike me as the type to track back though, like Laurent Robert.

    When Marveaux played against Scunthorpe I thought he got back well and put some cracking tackles in so if anyone replaces Obertan it should be Marv.

    Yeah but I also said you can swap Gutierrez round to make sure he is on the same side as Bale, last year he played left back. To be fair think we can cause Assou-Ekotto problems.

    Wouldn't put Santon in just yet, give him time to settle in before putting him up against one of the best set of wingers in the league.
