At the moment Nicky Maynard, but hopefully when Sam gets a good run under his belt I could be changing my mind as I think he definetly has potential to score goals and become the player we hoped we bought.
GM defender Sir Geoffrey Merrick GM winger Gert Meijer JD Jantzen Derrick DD Jacki (named my cat after him cos he could dribble all around me) GC Gary Collier BD Bryan "Speedy" Drysdale TT Trevor Tainton BT Tinman GS The Sweeney DG Donnie "I scored the winner at Leeds" Gillies Here's a couple for you Hawkmoonfy; GP half back, GL defender, TB forward/midfield, AR striker, JB winger, DM defender, KC defender, WW defender And on the original thread, reluctantly Maynard but if he'd been judged on his first season, nobody would have wanted to keep him.
Answers Geoff Merrick - Geert Meijer - Dariusz Dziekanowski - Gary Collier - Brian Drysdale - Trevor Tainton - Brian 'Tinman' Tinnion - Gerry Sweeney - Donnie Gillies
John Atyeo, Chris Garland, Tom Ritchie, cant be bothered to work out the others - sorry Hawky, my bacon sarnies are getting cold
GP Gordon Parr or Glen Pennyfeather I think he was called GL Gerald Lewin or Levin cant read my writing or Gordon Low TB Terry Bush AR can only remember 2 players with those initals Alex Russell midfield and Arnold Rogers from the early 50's sorry my diary for those years was written by a 3-5 year old and I can't read everything that I wrote. JB Junior Bent or Jack Boxley both were wingers I think DM was that David Moyes did he play in defence? KC can only think of Cisse but he was a DM basically who could at a pinch play at the back God we missed him. WW can only think of Billy ' Fatty ' Wedlock Grandad said he was a great footballer.
In many ways that s my current sentament Maynard used to be one of my favourite players until he started messing about and all those lies about the fans forcing him out.
You've a better memory than me cos I did not think of Junior when putting JB. Moysie was a very good hard working centre half and was in the Shrewsbury second division team when I moved up there to live. The KC is Keith Curle. GP is Gordie Parr and GL is Denis Law's best man at his wedding, Gordon Low. If we had three central defenders now out of GP, GL, DM, KC and Jack Connor, we'd be fighting for promotion not relegation. As for Billy Wedlock, my father saw him quite a few times and said he consistently outjumped forwards up to 6 to 8 inches taller. So I'll add him to the others in previous comment.
Yup forgot Keith Curle Just been busy googling some of my answers Glenn Pennyfather was with us for a season Gerald Lavin not Levin was another player we got from Scotland
Havent seen Baldock score any wondergoals yet Remember QPR, Coventry or the 2 at home to 'boro Memories are short
What am I reading?! At the moment it's not even worth debating. Nicky Maynard was the top goalscorer in the whole league, and scored one of the best goals I've seen from Bristol City against QPR. He did all this largely without any support from the midfield, and quite frankly without him we wouldn't have been anywhere near the middle of the table. Baldock hasn't really done enough yet to be mentioned alongside Maynard, but he has the potential to be a huge player for us if he and Davies and given the game time.
You know what i'm looking forward to though... BD, HL, TI, FT, AS, VY & JB The new Bristol City team that costs £100 grand and fires us into the Premiership Oh sorry, that was just a dream, because SL never put enough cash or importance into the academy or thought big enough about recruiting, training and attracting the best youngsters Oh well, back to div 1
Baldock, or anybody really. Maynard was a shabby individual prone to sulking. Not the type the club should want around the place. Onwards and upwards without their like hopefully.
Not living there and without gossip about youngsters. Are these local boys who have gone elsewhere? JB is Jack Butland I assume. Who are the others? Fair comment, but what about Wes Burns, Joe Morrell and Conor Cable who I understand have all come to us from South Wales so we are doing it now to Cardiff and Swansea.
Bless you Cider - they are a fictitious group of youngsters who dont exist, because we never had sufficient investment in our scouting and coaching network to find and attract them. Take your point about WB and JM though. Its only 2 but a start. About Connor Cable I know nothing (I come from Barcelona. Now that would be a very good thing if they did)
I quoted above at the moment Nicky Maynard, I still have a signed photo of him on the stairwell scoring that goal against QPR. I do feel that Baldock could go onto become a better player, it's just at the moment he has not had a run in the team. But if Davies were to remain fit and played regurly I feel that he could become huge for us, just a shame that he don't play enough
Maynard. Memory will be a simple one. At Ashton Gate with mates and we were struggling down the tunnell with a big rubble sack. Saw Maynard behind us so we moved to one side with difficulty to let him pass ... Couldn't even be arsed to say thank you or even nod. Not suprised when he mugged the club off. Rather have Johnny Kerr.
Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough in the thread start Was meant to read Which player do you prefer for both on and off field behavoir ie overall and which player do you think will have been the better player after a similar number of games sorry I just tried to make it as simplistic as I could.
Maynard in the end soured the relationship he should have had with fans, came across as indifferent to effort on the pitch and it was to the benefit of BCFC that he was eventually off loaded, but even that was a saga all about himself. I have always liked the idea of players being "champions" in the Italian sense on and off the pitch. Its a bit ideaological because the Maynards are only here for loot, but once we did have Gows who played like their life depended on it, gave the club his signing on fee from Man City because City were financially in real trouble, and off the pitch was humble, shy even. Murray had a shining star ability on the pitch for a time, very effusive and friendly off the pitch and turned down the Gas late in his carear because he did not want to spoil his relationship with City fans. Alan Walsh Mr personable, polite and professional off the park. Shelton, Hutchinson, Bob and Sean Taylor all had that "champion" quality. Baldock is the future, Maynard was a lesson in how not to conduct yourself.
