I like it. I'm sure his finishing is better than Ozturk's! That's the big CF and CB slots filled. Let's see if we can get another wingback and attacking/b2b midfielder in.....whilst getting McGeady & Grigg out the door - not easy.
Looks like a very good signing. No nonsense defender who brings leadership and experience. He's played in this league before and helped a team get promoted, plus he's played 150 odd games in the Championship. At 27, he's reaching his prime and he's available on a free transfer in the summer if all goes well.
This indicates that there is indeed bugger all money for transfer fees, this lad is a free agent in the summer and would have been cheap as chips. Oh well. No reflection on the player himself who sounds like just what we need, he's a leader, a big character and should be more than up for it physically.
Could look at it the other way though... Why pay anything when he's free in the summer? This way we can take a look at him close up for a couple of months, see how he fits in the team and works in training and decide if he is worth a 2-3 year contract
Could also be both parties looking at it and seeing how it goes first, and with an option on both sides to make it permanent in the Summer? If we go up.
If there's an option to make it a perm then that's great but if not he'll be a free agent and could go anywhere, if he does well with us he'll get some attention and there are no guarantees whatsoever we'd get him.
Some reports that he's injury prone and lacks pace. If so, loan deal makes sense. Permanent contract in the summer if he proves himself
Generally speaking if you get the chance to sign a player from the league above in the prime of his career for a nominal fee, it's sensible to pay it for the sell on value and to eliminate the risk of losing him. If he's crap I don't know why we'd be looking at him in the first place.
Thing is that we have Aidem McGeady who will throw toys out the pram at will. If Wright wants to be here, then the loan deal may suit both as he'll knuckle down to prove he's worth a permanent deal at the end of the season - or he could think "Well it's only a loan, I'm a free agent in the summer" . Or he gets a 2.5 year contract and tosses it off until the summer or knuckles down as he has the contract and wants to prove he's worth it!! Rock, Us, Hard place!!
Glad it is a loan. The BC fan on RR was full of praise for him. Praise seemed to be more for his attitude and off field stuff than his ability. Reckoned he never had much pace and having been out with injuries ( notably thigh ) he seems slower. Seems more like a ross player tbh.
Happy enough with this. We've been good defensively and Bailey sounds like he has the quality to compete for a starting position, not just provide cover.
Didn't Bailey Wright captain England and Wolves iirc. Decent signing if its same bloke...................
you haven't heard the praise his ex manager and the Aussie national coach give him, he is heaven sent for us
