Undisclosed fee (a little pointless secrecy or is there something in this - I'm thinking either extortionate agent fees or perhaps a little wishfully a cheeky add on that candle face didn't know about?)

I don't hold too much against Ba for leaving - he's left a side struggling to remain in the division after scraping into Europe for a side struggling to win the division after becoming champions of Europe AND got a pay rise...if he'd gone purely for the money then fair enough but he could legitimately win something with Chelsea, in fact you'd struggle to get odds of him NOT picking up a trophy!

Loic please!

Well he wanted to go and he has gone. I don't ever want to see a player pull on a Newcastle shirt when he wants away. So if you don't want to stay then I don't want you at the club! bye bye don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Thanks for the goals and songs. I hope the knees hold. <whistle>

Would be ironic if his knee problems suddenly arise - then it would look good business from our part...

But seriously are they going to play him as there main striker?

I'm sure there will be more

One greedy Ba sturd, there's only one greedy Ba sturd, one greedy Baaaaaa sturd

Well if history repeats itself BA will score none until next season and Cisse will bag about 15 between now and the end of the season.

He is a good player. Is he drogba class..... No.

I think in all honesty that he will be a flop at Cheslea.

If we get Remy in (And I seriously think we will. Never again will an AC saga happen again under pardews watch) then I think its good business.

Ba is good but he is replaceable.

GG

I judge a player by a) what he does for us on the pitch b) how his actions represent the club and c) what he says about the club and its fans.

Never any problem with him on the pitch, even when he wanted away he still seemed to play well. He represented himself and the club fine in my view and was complimentary about the fans. The issue people have is that he was fairly public about engineering a move but what do you expect really? He came in as a mercenary and left as one, it doesn't mean i dislike him it just procludes him from being a legend or a player we'll still be talking about in 10 years. 18 months, a hatful of goals and a fee that represents a probable profit (even taking into account his wages during the time) - seems like a winning signing.

As for he undisclosed nature its just how we do things nowadays. If I were to read more into it I would suggest he and/or his representatives got a larger chunk of that £7.5m fee than we wish to make public. I'd be surprised if as much as £6m of that money hit our accounts.

Can't really blame him he's left a team which lies a few points of relegation to join the champions of Europe. It wasn't motivated by money, I think it just leaves a bitter taste because his agents have blatantly been engineering a move to anywhere and clearly don't have his best interests at heart

Glad the circus is finally over. I Like Ba , has done a sterling job for us but certainly not heart broken he has gone (if replaced)

Agree with all the posters above..get some new representation man, Your agents have single handedly managed to lower the perception of that 'profession' from slightly above politicians, to below that of Daily Mail journo's..That takes some doing.

It's been reported that Ba would get 2.5million as a loyalty bonus (yeh loyalty) and any money that his agents get would be negotiated between them and Chelsea
that was where the holdup has been, his bloody agents
so all in all I think the best we got was 5million,

Sounds about right HDQ, its what makes me laugh when teams sell a player for £10m and buy a player for £10m and fans talk about "breaking even" or "no net spend". From what I gather (just biographies, info from club accounts and commentaries thereon) you do well to get 80% of a transfer fee into your accounts and end up paying 5-10% more than the disclosed amount every time you sign a player [ so in the example you'd get in £8m and fork out £11m and be £3m down ].

I want Newcastle to at least break even most years (ideally every year) and respect the club for aiming to, and in part managing to, achieve that. It does have an impact on who we sign and sell and our ability to hold on to players but throwing money around is no guarantee anyway. They need to get the checkbook out this window to protect their investment (by avoiding relegation) but expect them to focus on players they see as investments rather than people who are experienced and of an age.

Good luck to him and personally I think its daft wishing ill on him with regards his knee etc. Bloke worked his socks off and delivered for us big time. It might not be a bad thing for all parties as it was getting a little silly with his agents. That said I can't blame him for going for a bumper pay rise and a chance to win things. One of the big guns and and good payers.

All in all good business for us. Hopefully Remi or another will come in, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it left to the summer. I just think clubs will look to make some money out of us and we drive a pretty hard bargain.

If we get get a top centre back in I'll be happy regardless.

It shouldn't be a problem for you (short term) if you don't replace Ba anyway IMO. Debuchy coming in plus Steven Taylor, Yohan Cabaye & Ben Arfa coming back in should lift you away from the relegation zone and get you up the table. And Papiss Cisse being played as a lone striker, or at least as the main goalscorer in a strike partnership should get him back amongst the goals so you might not miss his goals as much as some think.

Happy with Cisse up top when he gets to play there. Has spent the majority of the season out on the wing but I think he has improved his all round game as a result. As you say we have some real strength to rejoin us just around the corner. Of course the worry has to be if Cisse was to pick up a season ending injury first week in February <yikes> I just think history tells us the board would cut their nose off before they get shafted. We'd only have Ranger, Shola and Campbell which would be a challenge to get the requisite number of goals to win games.

The lack of goals would be a worry but that said you'd think with a back four of Taylor, Coloccini, Santon & Debuchy plus Cabaye & Tiote/Bigirimana ahead of them you'd concede a lot less than you are at the moment. And if something like that did happen you'd expect the midfielders like Cabaye, Marveaux & Ben Arfa to step up until the end of the season and get some goals for you. Much like Nolan & several others did after Carroll was sold in 2011.
