He looks quite canny. Hope he's not a Luque though....

Joker, I catch your drift regarding the other thread fella but for the past 3 years we've tried single transfer threads and they never seem to work, something I'm cool about.
Given that it's quiet it's not always a bad thing to have specific player target threads as it allows people to dip into and out of specifics easier.
Just my humble opinion though.

Where does this signing leave Armstrong and Campbell is my thinking on this signing. I'm assuming of course that Perez isn't being bought as a first choice forward....

If Campbell couldn't get a game at St. Mirren he ain't gonna make it to the PL. Can't remember where, but I seem to recall an article by the ST. Mirren manager who said young Campbell needed to get his head sorted out!!!! Might explain why he sat on the bench all the time.

Armstrong is 17 and not ready for the PL. Too early to write off Campbell. He is 19! Loan to the championship or lower this season. Maybe look at League 2 for Armstrong or leave him with our young'uns. I want them given chances, but there is no rush.

Perez is the right age to be a 4th choice striker at this level. 20 or 21 you need to start getting a few games. Pleased we are bolstering the squad but we still need 2 main strikers. Cisse is not good enough and we should be selling. I'd have preferred we looked closer to home but he is dirt cheap so that will appeal to Mike.

June 2013, Newcastle signed Olivier Kemen, a highly rated teenager from France. He went straight into the development squad. What, pray, is different about this signing?

As far as I'm concerned we still haven't made a first team signing.

Kemen was only 16 years old when we bought him, so he was never going to be part of the first team squad.

By the time the 14/15 starts Perez will be 21 years old with 50+ plus games behind him in first team football.

Anyone thinking he's here as part of the development squad is barking up the wrong tree, he'll be part of the first team squad, hopefully knocking on the door to be in the team.

I won't say I'm enthralled at the signing, but, it is a signing nonetheless and who knows, he may turn out to be a good un.

Give the lad a chance and have some faith in GC, he may have unearthed a gem and managed to beat other clubs in getting him.

Indeed at 20 yrs old, he simply must be one eye on the present, one on the future. Time will tell if he has the ability but lets at least give him a chance.

I'm not disputing he may be a gem, or that hopefully he'll be knocking on the first team door. But "hope" and "may" aren't the same thing as simply being excited because we've finally replaced someone. Perez, in my mind, is only really a replacement for Campbell and just as many ifs and buts prevail. I'd treat Colback with much more relief than Perez, is all I'm saying.

We need to do something different in bringing these kids through because too few are making the grade. I look at someone like Raheem Sterling and think surely we have players who can be blooded in the first team at the same age (17). Rolando Aarons (18) looks a similar player (even born in Kingston, Jamaica like Sterling) but will we see him get a chance next season? Armstrong got 4 PL sub appearances I think last season but I don't think he was ever put in his natural position which I think is just plain daft - stick the lad up front, not on the wing. Like I say, something needs to change in producing home grown talent.
