Well, for everyone desperately hoping for the season to end, the end is nigh! I just noticed it's a 12.30 kick off, which is lucky as I was building my day around a 3pm start with everything else subsidiary. It's been a pretty dull season to put it mildly, and while I hope we finish on a high, that shouldn't deflect from the fact that for a couple of months we were toying with a drop into league 2. We can now start to look forward to all the signings we want over the summer, but it would be nice to end the season with a win. Ipswich have flattered to decieve, and with a much bigger outlay than ourselves, and you have to wonder how long they can maintain that level of spending, but having beaten them back in the wintertime, it would be exciting if unlikely if we could notch up a double. Hopefully Stockley and Aneke can put in a couple of goals, as our defence generally seems to keep clean sheets by accident. COYA
Yes, let's finish the season with a win. But nobody is going to get sentimental about this dismal campaign, however wistful and rose-tinted the official website gets. Our 2021-22 squad needs severe pruning. A good number of the players we see in our shirt tomorrow ought not to be wearing it again.
No news, just speculation. I imagine Jackson will be deemed to have done enough to keep his job next season. A win today and there will be a feel-good factor of sorts I guess, at least a muted one. No room for complacency during the summer though, and very few praises to sing.
I may yet look back on this season with a bit of happiness. Not for the football - games like Cheltenham or Accrington were as bad as anything I've seen. But I saw them. Thanks to the streaming, I've seen more football this season than any previous year. So by tomorrow evening, I'll be vaguely looking forward to the summer rebuild and the August kick off. It's part of Chsrlton DNA. From fond memories of the open East Terrace, and Paddy Powell serving up Killer Hales, to tha play off win against Leeds, and trailing around the South circular to Sellout Park.
FT thank fuke , hope they’ve booked a seven seater to bring back the players we’re keeping - the others can fuking walk!
Dreadful season. Fittingly dreadful way to end it. We need huge changes. But get ready for a couple out, a couple in, and a whole load of meaningless talk about how positive everyone feels. Will anybody at the Club stand up and say what a piss-poor season 2021-22 has been? Sadly no. So much for better communication or more honesty with fans. Good luck to the women tomorrow at the Valley.
Talk about saving the best till last. That had almost every error we have made this season rolled into one ugly ball. From a defence that left huge holes, a midfield with no imagination, and two glaring misses up front. We could have had at least two. If they'd scored 7 or 8, it wouldn't have been undeserved. I'm glad I don't have to sort this out, I'd even change the grass at the Valley after watching that.
Their spending was financed by the sale of amongst others Flyn Downes to Swansea and Andre Dozzell to QPR.
